Bimini Fling ?

Newbie here, please be gentle I hope this is the right forum for this question..........I can't find anything current on the Flings that used to leave from Lauderdale (Bahia Mar) and go to Bimini. Are they still doing this? If so, anyone know where to find a schedule for '09?

Or, if they've been discontinued, is there a resource with advice for ocean rookies to safely make the trip? Right now, we have 3-4 boats fairly committed to doing this in May or June if we can get enough info beforehand. BTW, these are powerboats, so I guess weather windows aren't as critical. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Greetings and welcome aboard, Mark.

Call 1-800-327-7678 (or 242/302-2000), or the Bahamas Tourism Center in Florida at 954/236-9292 to get the latest list of Boating Flings; or E-mail: emiller@bahamas.com

The South Florida Marine Industries Association or the Bahia Mar resort may also have information

Thanks Gord! I just fired off an email to the address you provided. I had all ready checked the sites at Bahia Mar and Bahamas Tourism and found no mention of the "flings". Maybe they quit doing them when the gas prices got so high? Thanks for your help...........Mark

Wasn't a Bimini Fling a drink with banana schnapps that they used to serve at Jack Tar?

My reply was in relation to the first post. In the first post AngerMgmt with a few powerboats are planning a trip. While my boat is a motor boat, I would not call it a high speed powerboat. I would be pleased to share as much information as I have with anyone who has questions. Also, please feel free to make the trip with me on May 14th. Just know that I am in an offshore fishing boat and plan on cruising at up to 30 knots. If a group of sail boats would like to go at the same time(s) please let me know what channel you will be on, and what your float plan is. I would be happy to keep my eyes and ears out to help in anyway that is needed. It's a big ocean, it pays to have some friends!!

Thanks all! I finally got the schedule yesterday and would post it here if I knew how. All "Flings" depart from Bahia Mar in Lauderdale.........Bimini runs are scheduled in June, July and August. Other islands on different dates.
cJay, thanks for the offer! Are you leaving from J'ville, or further South? Speed is not a problem if the water is right. BTW, one of our Captains has a Son who is a dentist in JAX.

any, stay posted......the more the merrier!!

We will be leaving from Harbor towne marina in Dania (Ft. Lauderdale).

I agree, the more people the safer it is. It's not that far, the only true concern is that if a solo boat breaks down, the stream will push you in the wrong direction (away from land).
