Whale Lands on Yacht
I was searching for Barens Seatrader yachts today (as that is what I have) and I found one in South Africa today. I emailed the guy for more photos, and this is what he sent me.
The whale jumped out of the water and landed on his 32 foot steel sloop! He and his girlfriend are ok, but the boat took some damage.

This is not a joke, this really happened. The mast and rigging are toast, the hard dodger is toast and the stanchions need replacing. It looks like his solar panels are in the water too. He's devastated, as his boat is precious to him. Thanks to the steel hull the boat didn't sink.

I do not have the reference but same thing happened to a yacht in the Whitsundays area of Australia a few years back. Seem to recall it came over the stern in that case. And from memory it was a GRP yacht and escaped with minor damage and people OK.

Shades of the Essex. Hmmm...
I can almost believe the story, but I can't believe the photograph. There was someone just off their stern ready to take their picture when a whale flops on the boat?
