Fish Up My Hole !

I have a fish thats living up my thru-hull hole that delivers sea water into the sink.

He wasn't a problem till I put in an electric water pump and now he doesn't like being sucked at 50 PSI and blocks the damn thing.

One of these sort of lil fellers who select the right size hole and stay inside. He's a type of Blenny

So, I go down with a screw driver and do battle. After a bit of thrusting he bolts off and waits till I go back on board then slips back in the hole!

The hull looks like a coral reef at the moment. I haul in a few weeks but need to do the dishes between now and then.

Yes, nice bit of wire mesh would be fine... sucked up the hole too! And would last about 3 days with the growth in this bay.

I don't know if I am telling you this because this is the sort of battle you will have when cruising. Or if some smart ass has a solution to my problem.

Would a little lithium grease make life miserable for him?

Environmentally, the best chemical to chase down the hole is ammonia.

I can guarantee you that lil' fishy will get the hell of of Dodge in a hurry.

'Put a cork in it' for a day or two after chasing him out, he will find another home by then...?

Re: Fish up my hole!

Maybe you could trap him. Put a cup / net over the hole while thrusting him out. Then spread the love and keep him as a pet?

Upon close inspection that fish appears to be a relative of the Percina Tanasi which is an endangered species subject to protection under various governmental regulations. Now that you have reported it's presence in your sink intake on a public forum clearly visible to governmental officials, I suggest you discontinue use of same until the appropriate Environmental Protection agents have an opportunity to inspect your installation to determine what steps you should/must take to preserve and protect the creature and more particularly its habitat. I believe a haul-out could be construed as the intentional destruction of the habitat of an endangered species which, in the US, and like minded nations would subject you fines and potentially imprisonment.

This is serious business....

Re: Fish Up My Hole !

does not the person who turns him in get half the fine for himself???

It will probably take 10 plus years in court to be able to haul out again markJ. Destroying fish habitat that is on the Endangered Specious List,,, bad marky
