Re: My new anchor, tested,

1/ My new anchor was untested in the ocean, I have only tested it on dry land,
It was still trial and error, I cant put my trust or life in some thing That I havent fully tested in real life,

2/ I dont have a windlass to pull it up, Its 38 Kgs,

Have any of you smarties tried pulling 38 Kgs up, plus 50 foot of chain out of the ocean by hand,
Standing on the front of a bucking boat with out rails,
It requires a lot of effort and physical strength,
I doubt if many of you could do it, But I do,

3/ The Danforth was for only short anchoring periods, It came with the boat,
Same as the Bruce, It came with the boat,
I would have bought a new generation anchor in Port Stephens, But I didnt make it,

4/ Its 7 years since I used the Danforth, The Bruce I also have is scrap metal in my yard, Where the Danforth will keep it company,

5/ The long slot is to pull it out backwards, So it wont get caught,
It goes past the balance point of the anchor, So when it lifts, The rear is up in the air and the point is facing down,

6/ I made this anchor myself out of scrap metal that I had laying in my yard,
Its Home Made, Hahahahaha

My Yard is also my Head Office of the company I owned and operated for 55 years,
Every thing I design and manufacture is manufactured by me, Personally,

I am an Engineering Blacksmith and a Fully Qualified Mechanical Engineer,
Certified, DLI Welder on the Lloyds ship repair register, 100 % Xray welder,
I have worked in all facets of Engineering processes Australia wide,
All my work is Guaranteed 100 % with out question,

I do know what I am doing, And the scrap metal is left overs from heavy earth machinery I have repaired at home,
Or onsite repairs and have brought the scrap left over from these jobs, home with me, Its cheaper than buying new steel when I have it laying in my yard,

My anchor is made from Bissalloy, For those that have any Idea on it at all,

Its Left over scrap from the cutting edge of a bucket off an Earth moving machine I replaced and repaired the cutting edge of,
It wont Bend or Twist under any circumstances, The point is Stainless Steel,

I have just made a windlass for myself to pull this heavy Beasty up out of the ocean,
Its a two way 1200 Lb cable winch, With a chain claw on it to grab the chain and pull it the last bit over the roller,
It slips onto the front of the chain locker when I am using it, And sits in the locker out of sight when not being used,
Its as ugly as sin, Hahahahaha
It will take all the effort out of dragging my anchor up,
It cost me a whole $30-00 delivered,

The couple of times I have used it in strong winds and strong currents, It has stopped my boat dead in its tracks,
My new anchor works in anger, Thats all I care about,

As for chucking it over the front, Terminology here,

How many of you have gently placed your anchor on the sea floor, With out a winch, hahahahahaha along with 20 feet or so of chain, and still have fingers,

Please use a bit of common sense, Duhhh,

Cheers, Brian,

Not necessary Mate, The Genoa is operated from the cockpit,
I never go out there on the bow normally, except to drop the anchor,
I can drop the anchor safely with the Genoa out or in,

I didnt know the Mooring ball was there untill I came close to the Channel entrance,
So it was all done in a hurry, at the last minute, Trying to catch the mooring ball,
Out of the cockpit, get to the front of the boat, Get a rope to catch the mooring ball with, over 7 knots and all in 200 feet,
I just let the Genoa go to try and slow the boat down,
There was no time for the finer points of sailing, I was in a big hurry,

I was just going to wind the Genoa in and drop the anchor, Just past the channel entrance, Out of the way of boats coming in or out of the channel,
I was going to drop the anchor using the boats speed to set the anchor,
We run out of depth chronically just past the channel entrance,
And how often do you run out of motor,

Re: My new anchor, tested,

The square plate that ties to the plow needs to flow not be a right angle. That results in stress at the square edge, it should taper so stress flows and doesn’t act abruptly at that corner.

Re: My new anchor, tested,

Looks to be a credible Super SARCA copy, ( including the use of Bisalloy) and at 38kg for that size & displacement boat, it should stay put. A couple of things about the way it is rigged could be improved perhaps, as Rex Francis may have discussed?

Re: My new anchor, tested,

Good evening Mr B. I did have a lot of questions but you answered all of them very succintly in your responses. Of all the safety equipment on your boat the anchor is one that sadly overlooked to often. Its just so important and greatly assists in a goods nights sleep. It is nice to have a engineering or trade background owning a boat

Have you seen a 25 ton excavator hanging off the cutting edge of their buckets,
A little bit of knowledge is dangerous,

Re: My new anchor, tested,

Mr B,

So your claiming that your "alterations" from the Super Sarca are "progress"?

Can you enlighten us on the deficiencies of the AnchorRight design that yours improves? In other words, why didn't you just buy a Super Sarca, other than trying to save a few bucks?
