Back to the scanning/ painting time... if you had set it on 200' out... it would take about a minute to scan... and at 6 kts... how many feet would you travel in a minute?
This may be true if you have it set for maximum detail, but on our nearly antique Interphase Probe, when set at 205 feet horizontal range and fast sweep, it takes only just under 6 seconds to complete a scan. We use ours almost exclusively in fast mode because we are mostly not worried about detail, but of general changes and the possible obstruction ahead.

A most useful tool for us, but as stated, not so good at avoiding logs or containers at sea.

Re: Thermal Night Vision Cameras

What a scintillating thread, comprehensively ventilating views and agitating issues all woven together with the golden thread of benign intention and peppered with a scintilla of ego.
Compelling reading and informative to boot. ' Mille Grazie '

We hope to contribute in a number of weeks after we settle on our new home afloat.

We are installing a FLIR M232 Thermal camera.
