I'd like to get user's opinion on track recording. MX Mariner currently records a track point per 200 meters traveled and/or course changes greater than 50 degrees per 50 meters (this eliminates arbitrary track points during GPS dither at stand still).

This means there will be roughly 1000 track points per 100 nautical miles of track.

I find this to produce better results than recording tracks at a pure time or distance interval. Any opinions out there?

Small problem. After installing section 6 and 8, mine position shows somewhere on land. It was working fine, until I downloaded and installed additional section. What happen?.
Marine Navigation Lite shows correct position. Seams that " I lost" the river from charts.

MX Mariner 1.3.1 released today supporting GPX import/export. MX Mariner can also open GPX files from external apps which will bring the gpx into the MX Mariner "Mark Manager" shown below. We also support "sending" GPX files via email and bluetooth. At the moment MX Mariner supports GPX tracks and waypoints. Route support is now under active development, so expect to see support for routes next.

Not yet. The release schedule is here. AIS support will be included in 2.0 and later.

Hi I am thinking about by a Notion Ink Adam with a readable outdoor screen, would MX Mariner run on that tablet? It seem like the Adam would be the perfect tablet read in the bright sunlight. When I read the thread, I recall somebody with an Adam offering to test the initial release, did not see any further comments about that.

The Notion Ink Adam should work fine. MX Mariner runs smoothly on the original Motorola Droid which is quite old. Here are some MX Mariner install specs:

For some reason todays update killed mxmariner on my Samsung Ace. Tried moving it from the sdcard bsck to the phone but the same error. Process unexpectantly died. Any diagnostics or logs I should be looking at Will?.

You definitely were not alone with this issue. My apologies... Fortunately it was an easy fix. Something went wonky with the build on 1.3.3 ... update to 1.3.5 and you should be good to go.

I have exported a gpx route and transferred it to my Nook (with N2A card), but mxmariner says it contains no waypoints. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? The size of the file is the same on the pc and the nook.

I took a look at all of gpx files you sent me and found the problem: They all contain routes (we only support waypoints and tracks right now). rte.gpx did contain 4 un-named waypoints which MX Mariner read from and imported correctly. I am still working on creating, displaying and importing routes. I assure you though that we will be supporting routes soon.

In response to your above question about tracking points, just an opinion:

For most sailing, I would be satisfied with 10 track points per nm.

Sounds like an essential requirement to avoid arbitrary track points due to GPS dither.

There may be certain situations in which closer spaced track points are desirable (eg. back-tracking from a reef entry, or pursuing a man overboard at night), but it would be of little value if GPS error made them unreliable.

If the size of GPS error varies by time/location, is there any chance to leave an option for the user to adjust downwards in "good" GPS locations?

One question...is there a way to change the base map from OSM to say other as seen in the help pages on your website. The base map is not very at very high level of resolution and my area is not covered by NOAA charts as they stopped covering Canadian waters as of this year.

Which leads me to the next question. I have the old data from NOAA that does cover Canadian waters and would like to tile them up. Where can I find instruction and code to complete that task. Its would be a fun exercise to do and document and perhaps be a help to others who want to produce their own maps in the needed format.
