Drop mark by pressing one key?

Hello All,

I recently upgraded to OpenCPN Ver. 4.0.

Using the previous version I was able to drop a mark at the boat position by pressing the Spacebar on the keyboard. I even put a strip of yellow tape on the Spacebar to make it more visible.

I discovered I can no longer do this with the new version.

I did RTFM and search the forum. It appears the only documented keyboard shortcut for doing it now is "Ctrl +O".

I am running Windows 7. Does anyone know if I can map a keyboard shortcut somehow so I can use the Spacebar again to drop a mark at the boat position?

Running in a small boat in heavy chop and swells it was easy to reach over and tap the Spacebar to drop a mark. It will be considerably more difficult and require that I divert more concentration time away from the helm to to do the "Ctrl +O" technique.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve

The space bar idea would make it easy to create WP that you wanted and also easy make it easy to have WP accidentally.

If someone implements this it should be an option with default=off.

Re: Drop mark by pressing one key?

Steve...

We removed this option in OCPN Version 4.x.

We found that many users have a habit of waking their laptop from sleep by pressing the spacebar, thus injecting lots of unwanted waypoints accidentally.

There many be third-party shortcut key apps for Win7 that will allow a single key subsitution for Ctrl-O. I am not familiar with these utilities, so cannot recommend any specific one.

Anyone else?

Thanks
Dave

Key substitution is part of the OS for Mac OSX. See keyboard settings / short cuts.

Hi David,

I do like the idea of making the function optional. Perhaps in the .INI file.

Hi Dave,

I downloaded 'autohotkey'. I have never used it before. I created a simple script that allows me to map "ctrl+o" to "Spacebar":

Space::^o

It works. I activate the script and tap the spacebar while OpenCPN is running and it drops a mark!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Gerhard,

I used 'autohotkey' for Windows. It's good to know OSX has a built in utility to do the same thing. Mac users who see this thread should find that helpful if they want the "Spacebar" function back too.
