Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

So, it works? I cannot see any AVIDM messages that should be printed to the console by aisdecoder

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

Hallo,
no i think it works not correct... aisdecoder works only for the moment and not decode new data.

i only become one "Level on" massage when i start over bash in one window, that is all. But i think aisdecoder must tell me more Level on massages.

When i write to a file, aisdecoder decode the file and stop. When new data is in the file i have to restart. But i think this works OK.

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

Do you get avi dm messages or not? Can you compile the plugin I added support for command line parameters so you can pass -d1

Is there actually ship traffic in your area? Do you have a proper vhf antenna? It won't work without the right antenna, and must solder inner and outer wires on the coax or it will not work at all.

Did you properly calibrate the dongle? If you don't pass the right value (with -e) it just won't work at all and it needs to be +- 5 from the true value but will get more messages when it is closer.

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

thanks for the update

when i start OpenCPN the error is still there. But rtl_fm runs in the backround and aisdecoder to

when i activate/deactivate the rtl ais plugin rtl_fm & aisdecoder starts and stop correct! When i not use my "-d1" rtl_fm start for a short time and close. so i think this part work

One small thing, when i add my "-d1" i have to make a "space" before it " -d1".

i try to receive some data and a very nice solution to add extra arguments!

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

oops, I should add the space. So you did compile it?

aisdecoder doesn't give any status. You need to go somewhere with ships.

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

Malte I never said such or even implied that. I am considering taking this service down now and compiling for just myself as it is not particularly appreciated in a number of corners. I try to keep up but I am not perfect.

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

you don't need to add any network port, the plugin automatically pipes them in. You only add a network connection to get ais from a different computer to the one with the dongle.

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

Hi! Im new here! And i have a question about this plugin.

Im about to build a new board PC running Linux and the new OpenCPN 4. Im not experienced at Linux, but have a buddy who is and brought me as far as i am.

My setup is:

Board ASRock Q29000 running Ubuntu 14.04.
2x RTL-SDR Dongle Logilink VG0002A
First Stick is in use for a tvheadend Server. Works.

The second one should work as the AIS Decoder for the plugin.

When i try to auto-calibrate the plugin, following error occours:

rtlsdr:
Execution failed: "ais_rx -d -r 256000 -e 0"

Is this a issue with the other, already used stick?

Any help - as usual - highly appreciated. Sorry for mistakes, im writing from Germany.

THX in advance!

Re: New rtlsdr Plugin

did you try with rtl_fm and aisdecoder?

You will need the latest plugin to be able to pass command line paramters to rtl_fm to specify which dongle to use
