No Audio ???

Hi,

I didn't get audio out.
Until April it works. Do a update and upgrade on my rasperry pi 3 a week ago. Since then no audio alarms. I cant't store the settings in oc in the watchdog plugin and in the radar plugin.

When playing the sound file via file explorer they work.

What for hell is that?

Any ideas?

Regards

Andreas

Re: No Audio ???

Andreas what version please? You said raspberry pi, but what was your source?

Andreas there has been some unmerged work on opencpn/opencpn
with regard to audio, but I don't think it would affect you.
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/pull/1407

However it might be best to report this somewhere, either issues or tracker, and please detail the conditions fully and completely, so others can repeat and confirm the problem. We also need your ini and log files. You know this stuff, so it comes as no surprize.

Andreas29....

Please be reminded that we do not take bug reports from builds to github master branch on this Forum. The master branch is a work-in-process between Releases.

Thanks

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

@rgleason: and @bdbcat:
I'm underway and then internet connection is not the best. Itwas late yesterday and i'm fighting with my raspberry cause there are some more issues. My first thougt was, that I made a mistake inthe settings or so.So I tried the way here. The "what for hell is that" was not for opencpn just for this special think I never had before.
So sorry if anybody fell angry for this.

Some more informations now:
System:Raspberry pi 3b+, latest raspbyan and kernel
Oc: 5.0 latest packages from the repository also the plugins

What happens:
In the settings from OC under ships ais I can set an wav- file for alarm. But when I sored a new (or other)one it will not be stored (inthe menue the original wave file shown as alarm file).
In the config file the new wave file is setted as the alarm file.
But testing the alarm sound file (or if an alarm is triggered from the ais) gives no sound. It doesn't matter of using the hdmi or audio jack. No sound.
The same thing with the watchdog plugin. There it is a little bit stranger. I can't store soundfiles for the alarm configurations. Testing gives also no sound
In the radar plugin the same with the alarm sound file.

In the settings I get two possible sound devices in oc (shown under settings surface) but with both the same.

Logfile says: PortAudio create() error: Invalid sample rate

Whhen playing the sound files with a file explorer they work.

Sorry I can't put the config and log file to this post due to the used hardware. Try to put the files later here.

Searching the web with the described error message shown some issues but no one of theese helps me.

Maybe you guys here have some sugestions I can try?

Regards and thanks

Andreas

Re: No Audio ???

Thanks Andreas, we understand the difficulty. Do you perchance have an Opencpn Version number or build number?

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

apt-cache show opencpn gives this:

Package: opencpn
Priority: extra
Section: misc
Installed-Size: 25595
Maintainer: Pavel Kalian <pavel@kalian.cz>
Architecture: armhf
Version: 5.0.0-0~xenial1

I used the packages from the ppa there the xenial version.

Meantime I could play a little bit around.
I can produce a sound exactly one time when open the menu then settings then ships then ais there moving to the alarm sound then switching to one of the two bells wave files and then testing.
One time after click "testing" then a sound. But only one time. After that one attemp no more sound.
The interesting thing then is, that after that I can't play sound with an other soundprogram (audacity). When stopping Oc and restarting audacity I can play the soundfiles. It looks like OC "locks" the soundplayer on the raspy due to an error. Tested some files with different sampling rates but always the same error.
I'm not the raspberry nerd so I don't exactly understand whats going wrong here.

Regards

Andreas

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

I´m back at home now.
A fast investigation shows that my backup from 5th April works without any sound problems.
In the next few days I try to find out if this is a problem due to changes in the raspberry system.

Regards

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

so after some trials I know now, that the no audio thing is due to an update / upgrade from the raspberry-packets and have nothing to do with changes on oc itself.

As I wrote, my April backup works.
It works until I update / upgrade only the raspberry system from the raspberry repository (I commended the repo for OC out).

So in the moment it´s better not to update / upgrade the raspberry system.

Iverymuchapologize if I offended somebody. This wasn´t my intention.

Regards

Andreas

Re: No Audio ???

Andreas, I don't think you offended anyone. Thank you for your report about the rpi OS and sound issues, this may help someone else. Also thank you for your detective work!

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

in the attached two files there are the differents in the log files especially for the sound devices.

I don´t know yet why oc only found two devices after the os update.

The effect is, that OC doesn´t play any sound. Not over hdmi and not over the audio jack.
Maybe there is a possibility to bring the sound back again with a clever command in the raspi command line. But I don´t know this command

Never mind.

Without the raspi OS update OC can play the alarm sounds

Re: No Audio ???

I have the same symptoms, but no back up file.

Anyone have a solution?

I am using a USB adapter on my rpi3. The audio tests fine for just the pi (.wav,.mp3, and white noise). I get the startup chime when OP starts. No sound for OC alarms...

Thanks

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

seems like the same prob as I had.

I search the web (Google) with "raspberry apt-get upgrade rückgängig machen" and found this in an german rpi-Forum:

"Schaue mal in /var/cache/apt/archives nach ob Du dort noch die debs der alten Versionen findest. Alternativ findest Du die alten Pakete unter http://snapshot.debian.net/.
Mach ein Backup (sicherheitshalber)
Deinstalliere Apache und PHP.
Installiere die entsprechenden alten Pakete mit dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/.. neu"

This is maybe a solution to get your working OS Version back without a backup.
Try it, but first make a backup.

I tried a lot of different wave files with different sampling rates and so on but nothing works.
The easiest way for me was then to use my backup.

Regards

Andreas

Re: No Audio ???

Same problem, opencpn play a sound just once when testing in ais settings, then nothing. I am using raspbian buster installed from image on a raspberry pi 4, and I have got no error message.
I am not completely sure, but I think that everything was fine when I first installed raspbian buster from Noobs instead of using the image... But not sure.
Can anyone help?
Thank you all

Re: No Audio ???

Hi,

@Rival32: In this treat here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...-201366-6.html

boat_alexandra suggested to install "pavucontrol".

I tried this on a raspi 3b+ with Stretch and it works.

So after "sudo apt-get update", type "sudo apt-get install pavucontrol"
After this you first start pavucontrol and then opencpn. Sometimes you have to play a sound in oc then restart oc and then you have the right Audio without problems and sometimes it works directly without a restart of oc. It seems that this have something to do how fast you start oc after starting pavucontrol but I investigate this in the moment.

Regards

Andreas
