Gilletarom...

MoTwilight is morning twilight, and EvTwilight is evening twilight. They may translate to different terms in different languages. In English, they are both "twilight".

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

I have had experience with this situation with CAD keyboard shortcuts.
To have two separate and distinct commands for Ctrl+o and Ctrl+O is not wise.
The shift key is often in an unknown state and creates confusion.
Can we have
Ctrl+o or Ctrl+O Drop mark at ownship.
O or F12 Show / Hide Chart Outlines. (also o works, consistent)

Code:
Can we have
Ctrl+o or Ctrl+O Drop mark at ownship.
O, o or F12 Show / Hide Chart Outlines.
OK, get it into the Tracker, and it will happen.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

For me both 'ctrl + o' and 'ctrl + O' create a WP at boat position
(Window Vista)

but the key 'enter' still create a WP at cursor position leading to
the undesired marks problem . This is due to (at least in Windows),
the key 'enter' generating the same code '13' as Ctrl +M.
Could it be possible to use instead 'crtl w' as 'create a Way point ?

Hello Dave,

Here some other items which are not in the pot file.

Open waypoint manager
select a waypoint
click on "Properties"

The window properties of this waypoint is opened

Click on "Add"

A windows is opened( Link properties) but all the items of this window are in English because they are not in the pot file.

See screen copy.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

In fact after more tests:
If the key board is blocked in upper case ,'ctrl + O' create a mark at boat position as expected, but ctrl + shift + o not . It is true for all key ( for example 'ctrl + shift + m does nothing but 'ctrl + M' - key bord in upper case - works)
It seams that the shift key , when both are pressed, cancels the ctrl key action

Hello Dave,

Other items not translated. These items are in english in preferences window of dashboard plugin.

So :
Toolbox,
Plugins,
Dashboard "Preferences"
Appearence

See screen copy.

The list of items :

- "Units, Range, Formats"
- "Speedometer max value:"
- "Boat speed units:"
- "Distance units:"
- "Wind speed units:"

And I add the name of an instrument : "Wind history"

All these items are not in the dashboard pot file that I known.

The last dashboard pot file that i known is here :

https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/b...shboard_pi.pot

Is it the last pot file ?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

hello Dave,

Sorry to disturb you with other items not translated ....

Now, I speak here about à Grip pot file.

The last grib pot file that I know is here :

https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/b...po/grib_pi.pot

1° Is it the last grib pot file ?

2° See screen copy.

Some items of the actual grib plugin preferences :
- "Grib preferences"
- "Use gradual colors"
- "Copy first cumulative missing record"
- "Copy cumulative wave records"
- "Load file options"
- "Load the more recent file in directory"
- "Time options"

These items are not translated.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

There are several different problems with locale files.

1. If there is a localized string in the source and the locale system is not initialized at this moment, the localized string is not shown, e.g. "Old log will be moved to opencpn.log.log".

2. Since there are more and more plugins it happens some locale strings for plugins and/or OCPN are same strings in english but different translated strings. So the locale systems fetches the wrong translation or none. The only solution I found is to change the original english string in the sources to make it unique.

3. Furthermore there are some plugin sources which declares any string in the code to be translatetable although they are code indentifiers, which crashes the executable then.

Jean Pierre consider this::

In practice it is unlikely a user will trouble to hit three keys at Ctrl+Shift+__.

Also it is best and less confusing if the Shortcut does the same thing when Caps Lock on or off! -Otherwise it is too confusing, found in use of CAD keyboard shortcuts and key macros.

I have no problem with using:
Ctrl+w or Ctrl+W Drop mark at ownship. [Perhaps this should be to drop a waypoint at the cursor, but we already have a shortcut for that. See Shortcuts tread] Which is Ctrl + M Drops Marker at current cursor position. (I assume Ctrl+m does the same thing, but have not checked.)

However the original choice is more mnemonic, if it can be done:
Ctrl+o or Ctrl+O Drop mark at ownship.
and I personally would prefer it.

I think Dave will make a choice here based on what he can do.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

Hello Dave,

Please, only one shortcut by function .... if technically possible.

And , if two shortcuts for the same function, ok .... but by example "Ctrl o" and "Ctrl O". No Ctrl+letter and Fxx or another pair.

Thank by advance.

Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Released

rgleason....

Congratulations:
I nominate you to herd up all the cats and negotiate/decide on the keyboard shortcut list. Maybe start or continue the discussion on the other thread....

Then simply tell me what is the decision, and I will implement it.

Do you accept?

Thanks
Dave

I loaded v0.92 of the AIS Radar plugin (on Ubuntu) and expected a warning dialog, as this plugin is blacklisted. It started OK with minimal testing. No warnings issued ?

Forgot another point:

4. It happens also there are strings in the config file (opencpn.ini) which overwrites the localized strings, e.g. "AIS target list".

Accepted, we will do our best, and take this ongoing discussion to Shortcuts Keys List forum thread.

I think we've got the first few changes worked out in FS#1178 - "UI Keyboard Shortcuts - keep upper & lower case the same command. Limit confusion due to Caps Lock." - More detail in the Tracker.

I expect there may be other items later.
