I've recently downloaded OpenCPN and purchased a Columbus V-800 GPS
I downloaded the software for my Windows Vista/7 from cbgps.com/download_en.htm, but can not get it going?!
Anybody tried that or willing to look into it please?
I need help!

Is this a new attempt to guide people into malware sites?

I know that is a chinese manufacturer site. But I am warned this site tries to get control with a web thread over my machine.

Since the NSA affairs we are very carefully in Germany. We dislike things like that.

OpenCPN problem on OS

As a first time user of opencpn on a mac, I am unable to do the most basic step of linking the program with the raster charts I've downloaded from NOAA.

After following all the steps I can find in the instruction manual, I remain unsuccessful. (I.e., my chart directory is listed in the "loaded charts", I click "apply", however, the charts do not appear).

I'm curious if there is a special problem OS or if I am missing something obvious.

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: OpenCPN General

Bill...
There should be nothing special necessary on a Mac. From the experience with new users reporting same stuff as you do in the past:
- If you downloaded the charts compressed, did you decompress them?
- Are they really in the directory you configured?
- Are you looking at a location the charts actually cover? At a reasonable zoom level so that the charts should be visible?

If the answer to all the above is "Of course I checked all of that, twice", please post a screenshot of the Charts tab from your toolbox, screenshot of Finder showing the chart directory configured there and your logfile (To find it, click on the question mark icon in the toolbar and read the location shown at the end of the About tab)

Thanks for responding. And yes, I did already do each of your suggestions checking thrice.

See my screen shots attached (hopefully - also a novice at forums).

1 - my "loaded charts" tab
2 - the directory name information

See if you can spot my error.

Re: OpenCPN General

From the manual:

Quote:
The Man Over Board mark can be activated through the icon in the toolbar, or through hitting Ctrl + Space-bar. The mark looks like the button and is dropped on own boats present gps position. This mark cannot be moved or deleted with the cursor or keyboard (by mistake), but can still be deleted from the Route/Waypoint manager dialog. More about Man Over Board here.

All the details of the Mark/WP Properties dialog are dealt with in Extended Marks

To Pavel and Gerhard - many thanks!

Spaces in the directory names created the glitch. OpenCPN working fine and currently comparing the features with my Rose Point Coastal Navigator.

Cheers!

Baikal...
What exactly are you missing beyond the extent of Vector Palette | Official OpenCPN Homepage ?
This stuff is a little complicated as part of the logic requires understanding the associated code, otherwise you will really never understand how the chart is drawn and why. So what level of C++ knowledge to understand the associated code (where you can find the answer) should we expect? And the answer unfortunately can't be "none"...
