Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

Pavel
Looks like a very effective way of doing localizations! What a nice change. Everything in one place, organized, including plugins! Translators can focus on Language, rather than technical stuff. Opencpn use will grow more.

I guess some parts of the manual need to be added to for this simpler change.

Great news, indeed! But I found several discrepancies.
  • Fuzzy translations.
    • PO files allow to specify “fuzzy” flag for a string, which usually results in not including such string to the compiled MO file. To tell the truth, I was more inclined to using this flag as a special bookmark to highlight the most quirky lines for further reconsideration whenever possible, but accept the common meaning as well.
    • Crowdin does not seem to have a direct counterpart for fuzzy flag. It has voting, it has comments, it has some “Have unresolved issues” filter (with nature yet unknown to me), but it did not import this flag and I doubt it will export PO files identical to the original ones.
  • 1-to-1 correspondence — for strings like “NMEA 0183” or “115200”, which probably do not need any special translation to most of the languages.
    • It is usually better to just copy the original string into translation, rather than keeping such strings untranslated and having to remember each time that they just need to be ignored. Poedit even has a keyboard shortcut for quickly copying source text.
    • When Crowdin imports PO files, it removes all such “dummy translations”, leaving strings as untranslated.
  • Developer notes for translators — context specifier, additional textual notes; neither of this is currently used by OpenCPN, but I hope it will improve over time. Does Crowdin support something like that?
  • Translator notes (comments). Crowdin seems to support them, but it did not import comments from PO files, and thus probably will not export them either.
So it looks like mixing Crowdin and PO files may not be seamless and may lead to data loss on each re-import / re-export.

Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

Hello Pavel,

I started today to use Crowdin. Damage that this tool does not speak Frnçais ..

Well, having said that, I added 363 translations OpenCPN.
I also tried to correct a small typo in an item that you translated yourself. (Texture Compression Caching)

I also completed the translation plugin AIS radar Wiewer.

Can you tell me if my work has been validated?

Thank you in advance.

Gilletarom.

Gilletarom...
Yes, you are one of the heroes of the day...

I'm merging the translation into the master tree occasionally (at least before a new beta is out)

Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

Hello Pavel,

Pleased to learn that Gilletarom is a hero .... But tonight, the hero is tired ..... And he would like to reduce the amount of work to do tomorrow .....

Precisely, the translation of pot plugin S63 file was made long ago. Apparently, the po file used in French in crowdin for this plugin is not the last po file that I sent.

Attention Dave asked that the S63 po files are not sent to the I18 but directly on the specific thread of S63.

I am looking attach it here, but I do not. Certainly because of the slowness of my internet access.

It is in line in the thread of version 0.5 of S63.

Can you put in place of the one that was inserted on crowdin.

Thank you in advance.

Gilletarom.

Pavel,
What about the plugins that are not part of the main OpenCPN distribution? Do you update these too at their own locations?

Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

99% of all language files presently available in Crowdin is now translated in Dutch. However, not all translations are operationally checked on screen within OpenCPN. I wil try to do this in the coming months.

Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

Hello Pavel

I have not done as well as NAV .... He is already more than 99% of translation. I only 98% for the French language ...

In addition, some translations are not translations ... I just copied the original version as if it were French .... It is usually very sophisticated items requiring lengthy tests before proposing good translation.

I'll work during the fall unless other translators not intend for us to save time. I actually a network of translators whom I will Contibution.

I think everything will be correctly translated, heart and plugins included, sometime in the fall.
