Anyone in Florida/Keys/Caribbean in January...

Hi,

Following on from my previous post we have booked tickets and will be coming over to Florida from Jan 12th till Feb 2nd to look at some boats and hopefully meet some people, I have spoken to a broker who came recommended via this forum and he will be sorting some boats for us to look at.

What I would really like is to buy everyone a drink and pick your brains, we have decided this is what we want to do, and we want to do it now before more bits of me start falling off...

We are planning on getting a boat, then spending the winters in the Caribbean and it would be great to talk face to face with others who have/are doing something similar, heck even if your great Aunt's friend once knew a chap who saw a boat it will do....

Always found there is no substitute for experience, I've read everything I can find on the subject and all that does is create more questions... My Kindle, she does overflow....

So if anyone is around and free and could put up with some bloke and his wife, with the funny accents from our side of the pond, asking some stupid questions for several hours, getting bored to tears but drinking free booze then please get in touch...

Worst ways you will have a good laugh and be able to tell your friends about the mad couple you met who have never actually set foot on a sail boat and now want to spend half their lives on one because they think it's going to be relaxing, and how you put them right about the best two days of boat ownership, "the day you buy it and the day you sell it" that a boats never finished, and you wish you could have a day off sometimes....

We are there for three weeks and don't mind travelling, even if you do have cars with the steering wheels on the wrong side, see there is another stupid question.... Do they have LHD and RHD boats...???

The Solitaire will be on the moorings in Boot Key Harbor from Nov thru mid summer anyway... assuming we don't founder in the meantime. Always enjoyed you Brits although I think most all of you are barking mad (My kinda folks).

Drop us a "PM" or contact us at S/V Solitaire Sailing Off The Edge | Home via the "Ahoy There" page. Of course, you might want to read one of my earlier posts (http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...1355956http://) while you can still get a refund on those tickets...

Fair Winds and hope to see you in the keys

I'll be in Cudjoe Key (mile marker 23) with my girlfriend Dec. thru March. I have a 24' Wellcraft we can take out, so that the F.B.I. can't spy on us.

I'll be 5 miles west of LaBelle, 30 miles east of Ft Myers, working on my boat. You can see my boat on my website. I have some interesting stories about time I spent driving in London rush hour traffic. And I've been to the Firth of Fourth. Jon

If you are in the Punta Gorda area give us a call. We live aboard a Catalina 42 in the winter and call Fishermans Village our home base.

We are in Tavernier as well. Have not been around monos lately but know a fair bit about cats and cruising in general. I travel on a British passport when it works better but have an American accent :-) Willing to tell story's for beer.
