Help! Need Info on Galaxy 32 (American)

I saw a 1962 Galaxy 32 today and am considering buying it but can't find info/specs on it. Is anyone familiar with this boat?

It had very heavy rigging. 5/16 stays, 5/16 solid rod for headstay, 3/16 or 1/4 steel halyards with big bronze reel winches on the mast, huge boom with sheets/ traveler on the end. small but very classy and nostalgic teak interior.

Some comments on the Galaxy 32
Bill Tripp’s* first (?) fiberglass design was the 32-foot Galaxy for American Boatbuilding Corp.

It should be noted that Bill Tripp Jr. is not to be confused with his son, Bill Tripp III, who designs racers and megayachts at his company Tripp Designs. Bill Tripp Jr. died in a car accident in 1971

“Bill Tripp Jr. (the designer from the 50's and 60's (and not his son who I sometimes see referred to as Bill Tripp Jr) has always been hard for me to catagorize. In a lot of ways, he was one of the best designers of the CCA era. Some of his work was creative and innovative (the Galaxy 32's for example) and some were pretty strange. I think that some of his designs were absolutely beautiful and others were clucky and not all that well thought out. There was a real inconsistency to his work. The other issue is the time frame in which he was designing. By and large, Tripp's work was largely intended as racers and racer/cruisers. Most of his designs were developed to do well under the CCA rating rule. Anyone who has read my prior comments on the CCA rule knows that I am not a fan of the boats produced to beat that rule...”

Thanks for the info Gord. Since Tripp design racing boats am I supposed to assume this is a racing boat? It doesn't seem like one. It looks kind of like a bristol in the stern with a big flat overhang. ALL of the blocks are made out of that brown stuff that looks almost like wood. The winches look like they weigh 100 lbs ea and have a square peg on the top. It's all very odd.... cool, but odd.

Does something like this have enough historical/collector value to restore it?

There is a brass plate on the bulkhead that indicates it was built for someone named Fitzgerald (I think) and mounted right next to that is an OEM brass fan that still works (kind of).

What I'd really like to know is A--was this considered a state of the art boat (like nonsuch) in its day? B-- what was its designed purpose and C--how many were made?

Someone out there must remember this boat...

I have a 1963 that I bought last December in RI. It had two previous owners that kept her in great shape. The original owner raced her on Narragansett Bay. The second owner summered her in Maine.

I have her in Woods Hole, MA. I absolutely love her. Rides wonderfully and the flared bow keeps it dry in the cockpit. She is overbuilt by todays standards.

I have original letters between the Nova Scotia yard and original owner. The foreman was a relative of our local Pilot Association President. I have original stats as well.
