Interesting to be a sardine boat. Here the hull of the old boats for catching sardines don't look so different:

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide

Here's a recent Doug Hylan design & build reminiscent of a cargo carrier that the client found in an old edition of Rudder Magazine. Although the pilot house is historically correct it is a little boxy but the hull is truly a work of art.

Thanks for posting the multiple photos and your text about the differences in models.

If you can find some good photos showing an interior of any of those boats, to show cruisers what they look like inside (for possible cruising), please post some of those too.
cal 27 t2 interior

ok. very hard finding pictures of the cal 27 t2 interior. i have a bunch on my computer but, can't remember where i got them and can't post them directly. the set of pics are of the main cabin. the video is of the pop top version, like mine. the t2 interior is the same except for a few things.

the doghouse, which is visible in the pics, is a major difference. other interior differences are that the t2 does not have the portlights, in the main cabin, in the lower section and it doesn't have the opening portholes in the head and hanging locker area. instead, it has portlights/holes in the doghouse. you can see that in the pics in my first post about these boats. you can also see it if you compare the above pics to the boat in the video.

the one other interior difference is that the flush deck of the t2 gives more head room in the v-berth than the pop top because, the pop top steps down 2 feet into the v-berth (visible in the video). i will continue to look for better interior pics but, i can't promise anything.

one thing of note about these boats. they have been around for a while; 40 years or so. there are often differences in the way these boats are outfitted. some are pretty bare inside and some are really nice. there are differences in the stern rails and other hardware, too. but, this is to be expected after all these years.

the interior space is wonderfully laid out and very homey and comfortable.
to make up for a lack of really good interior pics i included this video of a t2 under sail. hope you enjoy it.

Steady's Notes:

If any CF member has a Kadey Krogen 38, I would very much like to go for a sail on one. Why? It is a boat I admire. Please let me know via a PM and as I am traveling the USA ports in 2017 looking at boats, I may be in your area. I am not in the market to buy one this year, but I would like to sail on one, if you need crew or for a day sail.

The Kadey Krogen 38 Cutter is a boat I have admired for several reasons:

Shallow Draft with Dual Centerboards (minimum draft = 3' 2")

Flush Deck (or Raised Deck)
Design for maximum headroom inside saloon, and a nice deck for storing a hard dinghy or nesting dinghy (my preference).

Traditional styling (Decorative details such as trailboards on the bow, a bowsprit, etc.)

Large Cockpit and large Lazarette lockers for storing cruising gear.

Unusual interior layout with athwartship double in aft stateroom, nice for living on the hook.

Traditional styling in the interior, with wood and a comfortable looking salon and galley.

This design was admired by Robert Perry, a naval architect whose own designs have a wide following and whose judgement many respect. I don't always agree with his views, but I found his remarks about this boat design particularly interesting (see below).
_____________

NOTE: As in earlier posts, I am posting a mix of photos from a mix of boats to illustrate this model. There may be differences in boats from one year to another. The photos I post are to be used to get a general idea of the boat model and type. As with all boat buying: Caveat Emptor!

_____________
Robert Perry Review of the Kadey Krogen 38
http://www.kadeykrogen.com/articles/...ftingtable.htm

"There is nothing better than a flush deck to set off a handsome hull."
"This is a very interesting design"

"James S. Krogen designed this yacht for himself and is presently having it built in Taiwan. Those of you who have followed yacht design over the years will be well acquainted with the work of Mr. Krogen. His designs have always been amongst my favorites."

"If this design did not have tandem centerboards I might worry about weather helm, but the boards will take care of that. The sail area to displacement ratio is generous at 17.5, indicating to me that Mr. Krogen likes to sail fast. The low aspect ratio configuration of this rig will make it quick on a reach, the one point of sail where the staysail can really do some work. The benefit of this rather large rig is that it will enable the boat to move well in light air without the need for genoas bigger than 130 percent. "

100 Foot LOA WALLY "INDIO"

How do you like this Flush Deck?

To my eye, it looks long, sleek, and "sexy" for a boat.

While it is more than I would want for a cruiser for myself (and a wife) it is a superb boat for a very large sailboat.

No need for thanks, I like boats and I like to share the ones I like and I like them with as little windage as possible. That goes with the concept of flush deck even if in small boats that is pretty much impossible to have them without having or a big freeboard or a insufficient standing weight. My one boat is a decent compromise in what regards all that. A sistership:
