Jeanneau 52 wobbly steering sheave

My brothers Jeanneau 52 steering sheaves have a lot of play and need fixing. Does anyone on the forum know:
  • The make of the sheaves. There is a Goiot logo on the pedestal
  • The construction of the sheave bearing, is it a bush, roll or ball bearing? Material?
Many thanks in advance for helping

The bearing is short. Get the dimensions new bearing. I think it’s an inner d ring which hold them in. One or more ball bearing has left. There is a tensioning wheel to make the line slack and you may need to line things up a bit.

It looks like the sheave has broken loose from the tube above it. Possibly replace the sheave or have it welded back together.

Unfortunately, I cannot find on the Goiot website this type of sheave which is circa 2001. I have contacted Kenneth Ryland at Sanshin Welcome to Kenneth Ryland - Distributor of Specialist Marine Equipment who do stock the acetal bushes, but will also have to fix the wear on shaft and on the pulley sheave.

Maybe swap them out for Edison gear?

Re: Jeanneau 52 wobbly steering sheave

Zephyrwerks makes top quality custom sheaves for competitive pricing- in case it comes to that. [Masthead, anchor rollers- split and one piece, etc.]

Cheers! Bill

Have rebuilt sheave’s for various systems by turning the centre out and fitting one or two sealed roller bearings ,turn the hew centre to a shrink fit ,heat the sheave in oil not two hot ,cool the new bearings ,set up on a flat plate ,drop in new bearings ,let cool, better than new ⛵️⚓️
