Composting Toilet suggestion for aft head on Hunter Legend 40

Hello All,

Just purchased a Hunter Legend 40 with an inoperable aft head. Planned on putting in a composting toilet, but upon measuring the flat portion of the aft head platform where existing toilet sits, the measure is only just over 10”, then the hull curvature begins. Anyone put in a toilet that will fit this dimension?

I've only ever used a Nature's Head. I don't recall how large my base that it sits on is, but I know the urine container section protrudes out over the lip, by at least 1/2 ... perhaps more.

I see from specs that the core base is 9".

I just put in an OGO in my CS27.

I had to raise it about 3 inches to avoid the curvature.

There is lots of empty space behind the liner my aim was minimum destruction

Congratulations on your purchase! I have a legend 37.5. They are great sailing boats.

It might be a simple fix, like installing a new pump handle assembly or even just replacing the joker valve.

Out of the main ones, I think the ogo and the chead are the smallest

Yes, but they appear to be out of business. There are newer ones now which are similar.

Most manufacturers websites have dimensions. You should make a cardboard mockup to see which one fits the best. I have a Nature's Head and the urine container sits out over the edge of the platform by about 4 or 5 inches with no ill effect.

Re: Composting Toilet suggestion for aft head on Hunter Legend 40

I am also happy with my Nature's Head.

Here's a link to the installation page which includes a diagram with dimensions:

https://natureshead.net/installation/

Without knowing more about the space around your 10" base it's hard to guess whether it would fit, but the 9" bottom of the solids container might sit well assuming you have clearance behind. The unit is anchored by two L-brackets, one on each side of the solids container, you can see one in the diagram just forward of the spider handle.

The spot where I put mine has a similar dimension to yours, an old fiberglass base for a jabsco head. The unit sits firmly with no troubles. You can see the L-brackets that secure the base in the picture. The liquids bottle projects out over the floor of the head compartment, which has a shower pan with a small sump below the wood grate. I've had no problem with it sitting suspended, however I put a small step unit under it so I have somewhere to rest my feet rather than having them dangle.

I have used a AirHead in 3 boats now. They make one with a angled back on the lower chamber. I have been very happy with them.

You could also elevate it up a bit if you need more space behind it.
