Re: Jeanneau SO 45.2 TIE RODS

Why? They last for life of the boat, I have been doing rigging for years and we have never changed one, even so,you can contact Beneteau even if you have a Jeaneau, I remember changing 2 on an Oceanis but not because they were damaged by use, the boat fell off the stands on a hurricane and they were bent.

I seem to remember that they are the same on the Jeaneau, but I can't be 100% sure.

Thanks Neil I wish they were for life but being SS fatigue is the silent enemy and this boat went through a hurricane in the Bahamas. Also the base mountings of mild steel looks ordinary and needs preventive treatment

They are bulletproof, you should only check that there are no microcracks where the thread ends, and also on the head where it works on the deck chainplate, if the base starts to corrode it is also a good idea to sandblast and repaint it.

I do not remember what they cost, but they were expensive, like almost all Beneteau after sales service parts.

Here are some pictures of the last job. You will see that the piece on the deck is also well designed, you have to check that there are no cracks on the face where it rests on the deck, especially where the tie rod passes.

And the new tie rod installed, keep in mind that when you tighten it, you must do it by hand until you see that there is resistance, from there about 2 turns with the wrench, or better leave marks on the thread, I have seen people tighten them as if they had the mast on the deck sinking the deck.

If Plucka Duck's pointing it out there 's gotta be something wrong with it...that was a good show...

Wow, no articulation and no toggle.

It looks more like a design flaw to me.

Re: Jeanneau SO 45.2 TIE RODS

I have a 2000 45.2 with 26,000 ocean miles over the past 7 years. No issues with metal fatigue or cracking, or water intrusion through the deck. Compared to newer Jeanneau or Benneateu boats, this standing rigging is so over built (IMHO) as to be indestructible.
