Re: Advertising banner covering the recent thread topics

I contribute through my content, which I provide to CF for free. I'd be happy to pay a subscription fee IF CF starts paying me for my content. Until that time, it's a barter of services; they get my content and I get to use the forum.

I used to get paid for my content (CF Supporter for free) then it stopped…. then I started posting just for fun like most do

Interesting... so CF used to compensate some users, presumably for the high-quality content. Do you know why this stopped?

New owner, now it’s just business so the deal was terminated. We got another couple of years of contributor status for free and I’ve been paying since then. There’s too many non-cruisers now to care about what is posted now

My time on CF has been greatly reduced because of this problem. If enough of us quit using it or cut back use, maybe the owner will decide to treat their customers better. are we customers? or the product?

Re: Advertising banner covering the recent thread topics

It's interesting to note the forum software that CF runs on: vBulletin, has not been updated here for a long time. They are running on v. 3.8.8 but the current version is into v. 5, so they're not spending any money to stay current.

I'm not trying to slag the owners here, but let's all be clear that this is a for-profit venture. And while there are real costs to running a forum like this, they are pretty modest.

Social Knowledge LLC [Andy R] acquired, and still owns the CruisersForum, from our founder [Gisle], in 2005.
Jedi didn’t join CF until 2009. There’s been no new ownership, since Jedi joined, so that neither gained, nor lost, him that free supporter status.

So, the mystery deepens.

Hmmmm…. It may have been another forum that Andy acquired but I’m quite sure about the policy change I described. I believe we were called CF advisers or something.

FWIW: CF “Advisors” are generally retired [former] “Moderators”.

Okay, had to refresh memory

Here’s that thread: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ers-53820.html

In my pm’s I found the msgs from Andy about buying the forum… it was the Tiffin forum that I also used to be active on.
