I have at BEST a 5Mbps connection at home, and by early evening I am down to 1Mbps, and I have noticed the Cruisers Forum site is REALLY struggling for me recently. And I also noticed the Cloudflare transparent proxy redirection page appearing from time to time, which I reckon is a sign they've got some bugs to fix.

I've fallen for the same trap when developing B2B apps in the early days. You do all your dev work on a LAN then when the product goes live you a reminded that the Internet is nothing at all like a LAN for the majority of the users.

CloudFlare will fix it, there's probably a lot of devs running around swearing at the network engineers right now. It will be a frustrating week or five for us on low bandwidth.

I've Never done anything like this and am only guessing myself, but I'd bet a beer you you are correct, I can't log on with my Ipad at all
I do not think it a forum issue

OK, to add to the data (in case the techies are reading), I use Tapatalk to access forums on my iPad. I’ve been unable to access CF for the last couple of days this way.

The problem is noted and I will ask some questions. I have the same 5 second delay btw.

Well, like all experienced (surviving) pilots, your observation skills are superior to mine. I just realised my Ipad has the same problem.

And I hadn't connected the dots.

Well I feel like an idiot now.

(I have to buy you a beer! If you are on the East Coast of the US there could be a chance to buy you one, I am batting around the idea of a trans Atlantic delivery with a friend at the moment.)

Well, if you happen to come by Jax, which is a day out of your way so I doubt it but if you do, I can take you to lunch, we have a car, sort of. A miata, so only two seats

The Android app and Tapatalk aren't working either.

Good to see.

My brutal advice is not to bang on about it being "ridiculous". How much exactly are you paying for this fountain of endless and valuable advice from experienced cruisers around the entire world?

That much hey?

A simple "I see a problem" to the CF mods should be fine, they are probably suffering some of the same symptoms themselves and will bring it to the attention of the hosting provider who will escalate etc.

It will get fixed, and in the interim, we will share workarounds.

So, workaround number one is, trying another browser.
Last I checked the owners of CF are making decent money off the content that you and I are providing them for free. Given that their source of content and hence revenue goes away if we can't access the site easily to create that content then....yes, it is "ridiculous" to fail to simply turn off the "security" feature (it's trivial, I have it on my hosting service as well) until it stops making the site harder to use for the people who make your living for you. It's always important to know who butters your bread, in this case it's definitely us doing that for CF's owners, not the other way around!
I'm not complaining, but I sure as heck won't hesitate to provide this service instead if they're unwilling to!

Re: cloudflare blocking access

FWIW I'm getting the same problem on other websites as well. The ones I've seen so far are all sailing related but that's probably because that's mostly what I browse.

Re: cloudflare blocking access

yes Tapatalk blocked, launch web browser, 10sec delay

after that browser quicker but cloudflare re-checks every time my IP address changes

My guess is the website is under a cloud-coordinated DDOS bot attack.

If cloudflare were not protecting it we would not be able to access the site at all.

So thank you to management for having the foresight to invest in the cloudflare protection service and I hope full access service will be restored in coming days

This could very well be the case.

Though it is curious that I can access the site via qutebrowser but not firefox.

I might check into the differences in fingerprinting between the two browsers.

Sometimes obscure browsers can let you select a User Agent string that spoofs a more mainstream one
