cloudflare blocking access

HI All,
I am unable to login using firefox on my linux machine. I can, however (and obviously), login using qutebrowser, a chromium based browser.

I can't be the only one having this issue.

Please fix this. This ridiculous.

Re: cloudflare blocking access

I’ve just noticed this added security feature which presents me with some sort of 5-second pause before allowing me in. I have no idea what it is doing, or why. It just showed up for me perhaps a day ago.

Re: cloudflare blocking access

Had the same issue earlier today with Chrome on Android. Obviously got it settled, in my case by clearing cache, going to CF and then it did the Cloudfare check when I first connected and passed me through. No check since. But prior, when trying to post a reply the check said wait, then went nowhere. Was quite frustrating.

This is what happens when you make"security" more important that actually allowing your users to use your product. Kind of like a ship in Port is always safe, but that's not what ships are for....

Re: cloudflare blocking access

Firefox via gentoo linux never gets past cloudflare to the forum. It will just endlessly refresh

Re: cloudflare blocking access

So I cleared my cache (I did this earlier today to no effect). I am now able to login but when I try to navigate to to a particular page or forum I get the same behavior as I described above

Looks like they are trying to prevent DDOS attacks.

Fair call, but frustrating if you are on a slow link because the algorithm for detecting the intent of the browser gets messed up and interpreted as a ddos client. Likewise various ad blockers etc will cause the same problem.

Interesting … I should have added I use Safari on my MacBook Pro. I also always run Adblock. I’ve done so for years now with no noticeable effect here on CF (except I don’t see all the annoying ads).

Re: cloudflare blocking access

Hmmm, a forum for cruisers that may block access because their internet connection is slow. Anyone else see the irony/problem? (And yes, my connection is currently quite slow, but CF is the only place I'm having problems)

Ha ha, better than my connection, that's for sure.

Any ad blockers, have you tried another browser? Are you doing any MTU shaping?

Just for the record, I am guessing at all this, based on 30 years of doing this stuff for a living.

My GUESS is that Cloudflare, who host GAZILLIONS of web sites, have "improved" their DDOS protection, and in the process, have broken it for a number of us.

I have at BEST a 5Mbps connection at home, and by early evening I am down to 1Mbps, and I have noticed the Cruisers Forum site is REALLY struggling for me recently. And I also noticed the Cloudflare transparent proxy redirection page appearing from time to time, which I reckon is a sign they've got some bugs to fix.

I've fallen for the same trap when developing B2B apps in the early days. You do all your dev work on a LAN then when the product goes live you a reminded that the Internet is nothing at all like a LAN for the majority of the users.

CloudFlare will fix it, there's probably a lot of devs running around swearing at the network engineers right now. It will be a frustrating week or five for us on low bandwidth.

Oh, I see you have a work around.

Good to see.

My brutal advice is not to bang on about it being "ridiculous". How much exactly are you paying for this fountain of endless and valuable advice from experienced cruisers around the entire world?

That much hey?

A simple "I see a problem" to the CF mods should be fine, they are probably suffering some of the same symptoms themselves and will bring it to the attention of the hosting provider who will escalate etc.

It will get fixed, and in the interim, we will share workarounds.

So, workaround number one is, trying another browser.

Re: cloudflare blocking access

Actually, you could try cutting out the middle-man and posting something on CloudFlare's support forum. SOMETIMES that works, other times the hosting provider bumps you back to the hosting client.
