Emoji’s

We could use an emoji for sarcasm.

Re: Emoji’s

We could but then we might have to delete the use of it as being discourteous if the use of becomes excessive .

Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully. Excessive sarcasm, belligerence, insults, profanity, anger, offensive comments about race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and national origin, are not acceptable.

I think once a day is all I’d have time for.

Re: Emoji’s

I've read that the 'upside down smiley face' is sometimes used to convey sarcasm/irony, but have no idea how to create it, except through a cut & paste.

Doesn't the 'nonono' , or the 'eye roll' convey a similar idea?

I would not have thought so...

Although maybe...the great thing about emojis is no really knows what they mean - it is all in the eye of the beholder / reader viewer.

Having said that, seems a straightforward passive aggressive retort https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye-rolling

says (to me) - a seriously intense negative riposte

Re: Emoji’s

Whatever happened to using words to convey sarcasm? Sure, written language is sorely depleted next to spoken language, and in this case tone of voice, but:

Oh, that's just wonderful. How did you come up with such an inspired idea? Did your second grade teacher suggest it?

Re: Emoji’s

I remember learning in grade school what a great leap forward it was for civilization when we started using the alphabet instead of hieroglyphics. It let us handle an entire language with a limited set of characters instead of needing a different picture for every word.

Now, five thousand years later, - is there an emoji for "doomed"?

And, trying to be helpful, other forums (and maybe this one) have adopted "/s", which is apparently rough coding shorthand for "end sarcasm".

I'm sure this post will straighten everything out. /s

My keyboard has one but it comes out as>

Humm! The last time I tried a keyboard emoji on CF it came out as text. So, I suppose I can use the keyboard now.
Problem solved!

The problem is; some people take text literally. My wife with broken English has a hard time with joking around. Makes her made sometime. She takes it serious.

If we’re going the way of the chinese it’s best to get use to picture writings.
