Lost Post

I spent over an hour writing a long detailed post about a boat I'm interested in. When I reached to post the message, it just disappeared, and I could not go back to it. This feature of this forum is really horrible, and I'm so mad, I could throw the laptop against the wall. In any case, I am unentusiastic about wasting so much of my time on posting to such an unstable platform. count me as really disappointed. I had something valid to talk about, but that discussion thread will not be posted again.

I feel your pain, I've had it happen as well when I write a long
post...I'm sure you don't want to hear it now...but once my daughter found me crying in the fetal position on the floor in the
corner...after explaining what had happened...she suggested
after a long post before sending to copy so i could paste if it
were lost. It has saved me a few times now. There may be
easier ways someone else can add? Oh by the way...they tell
me I may be released from the institution soon if I don't destroy
any more computers!

What I have figured out is, there is a time-out feature here.
It is there to protect you and also to save bandwidth I think.
If you take too long in composition you are disconnected and when you click to post your stuff is lost to the nether-e-land.
There is no warning timer for you.
Best of luck.
PS
It has protected me before since I have become incensed and written a very long and detailed reply that was better off not said, even though I was wholly in the right, correct in every sense and they were ignorant, uninformed, rude and just plain wrong-wrong-wrong!

And that is fact!

I also feel your pain - but have some suggestions...

As suggested in the past post: After you've written your post (but before you hit reply) highlight the post and then copy it onto your clipboard for safe keeping.

Consider composing your post in a word processing program and then pasting in to the reply editor

Finally - change to Firefox for internet browsing. It's a great (and free) browser and if you accidentally blow away your post hitting the back button in your browser will get you back to your post before you hit reply

Thanks for the kind and thoughtful replies, folks. I appreciate the supportive sentiments. Maybe I will try Firefox...But I have gone from being an active and heavy poster on other forums to being mostly a lurker these days. Mrs. Spammy gets upset when I spend too much time online.

My wife would kill me if she knew I have a solution. She expects me to just listen....
One easy solution is to make your long message in Word (or similar) and do regular saves. When done simply copy paste the message into the forum.

What about lucky socks? They worked in highschool baseball... maybe they'll keep me from sinking the boat.

When I feel a long winded reply coming on, I write it in an editor; word, wordpad, notepad, etc.
However, a number of times in the past I discovered my message in a buried window because I had inadvertantly moved the mouse out of the window I was working in, and clicked it; it can happen when the mouse bumps into something on the desk.

I no longer have senior moments. Instead I wait for the occasional Junior moment!
