Another issue is in IE 7 cookies are not set, so when you log in unless you chek remember me you are immediately logged out upon going to another page.
Actually it's worse. If you don't ask to be remembered you'll be nagged to death everytime you try to post anything. It's just the cost of keeping the spammers away.

Don't even get me started on forum spammers, I have one forum that has been taken over, nothing keeps them out!

On the upside tho, I now have a huge DB of porn links! NOT!

What is the purpose/reason/need/advantage of having these "friends"?

It's why I'm here and I assume you and a whole lot of other folks. We stack up the spam like lumber. It gets a bit harder every day.

One can never have too many friends. They can be useful in many ways...

To pick up the bar tab
To cart one home after to much fun at above
To make your funeral look well attended
To impress your geeky brother who thought you'ld never have any

The friends feature is just a social networking feature - some folks like it, some don't and most just don't care

You forgot the previously mentioned, to help you drink your beer.

That's what you do when you never want to see them again.

One must be constantly on guard against advocates of the "Be reasonable and do it the hard and expensive way" school of thought.

That type of elitist thinking has ballooned the cost of boats, and cruising , far beyond what it need be, and beyond the reach of too many low income cruisers, for no benefit. --Brent Swain

I make a point of adding members to my friends list if I feel they have the same attitude and interests as me. As well if I feel their posts are informative and worth a read.

Some have said " Why have friends, they drink your beer?"

I certainly hope that any friends that drink my Rum will return the favour and buy the next bottle. The sailing community really is quite small and it does not take long to meet people you may bump into years down the road in some anchorage you just happened to pull into.

So lets all make a point of adding someone new to our friends list and getting to know them a little better.

Say you like tangerines and had tried them. Say I wanted to like tangerines but never had courage to try them. And then say I saw your profile -- based on our mutual love of tangerines and my dependency issues, we could then be best friends for life.

And then we would, like, sail and occasionally TM after lunch.
