Red Balls / iPad App

I am using the CF app for iPads. It's awesome and I use it every day. What heck are the red balls in the lower right corner of the picture. Everyone seems to have one.

Again, I just tested this - after disabling my iPad's network connection and relaunching Find My iPhone, after several minutes of searching it fails to connect, shows the red dot, but still shows the last location on the map and how many minutes it's been since last located (now about 30min in my test). This usually appears as a small red, blue, green, or black spot on the screen.

green means you are online
Blue means you are offline
Red may be Apple's way of displaying one of these...... just a guess
