'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

Since yesterday (10/22) the server has been running dog slow, and when I try to post replies, I get a useless system error saying the forum can't be reached. Except, if can be reached and new pages/threads opened without any problems, indicating there's a problem there with the reply-posting process.

This site can’t be reached
www.cruisersforum.com’s server IP address could not be found."

I can't be the only one on the planet seeing this problem?

Once in a while, a reply gets tough. Nine out of ten, don't.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

There are times when it seems to be slow, seemingly in the morning, but I’ve never had what you’re describing.
Not to be too insulting, but reboot and of course your cache and cookies, that may help.
However people have written books on what I do not know on computer systems, so I’m not really one to advise

FWIW I quite often get that message, I just quit and go back in a while. Seems to work for me.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

An error like "IP address could not be found" sounds like a DNS (domain name system) problem - which means its part of a world-wide distributed system.

But if you're the only one seeing it, it's more likely to be with your local Internet provider than with the CF website.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

It seems to have finally cleared up, when the system allowed me to post the problem here.

It could be a DNS problem, as Anglais suggests, but I was able to read new threads, and ping and tracert the main server, without any problem. It was just the "post a reply" function, which I believe relies on scripting on the CF server. The primary CF server was being accessed with no problem, so the DNS server(s) were finding the right machine--just not the functions involved in posting replies.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

Happened again today.
And, both ping and tracert to "www.cruiserforum.com" went through repeatedly with no problems, so it isn't a DNS problem. I could reach any page--but any URL ending in a ".php" seemed to generate the error message that cruisersforum.com could not be reached. This started at around 20:40 GMT today and the problem resolved itself by 21:15 GMT. (i.e. centered around 5PM US Eastern Time.)

You can see from the stats below (one of several runs) that there was good connectivity and zero packet loss when manually knocking on the front door:

===================
7 12 ms 12 ms 14 ms 75.149.231.166
8 13 ms 10 ms 11 ms 104.25.206.19

Trace complete.

>ping cruisersforum.com

Pinging cruisersforum.com [104.25.207.19] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 104.25.207.19: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=57
Reply from 104.25.207.19: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=57
Reply from 104.25.207.19: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=57
Reply from 104.25.207.19: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=57

Ping statistics for 104.25.207.19:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 18ms, Average = 13ms

Something is either set up wrong or failing, whoever is hosting the server and writing or updating the php scripts both need to know about this.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

It's been happening to me for a week or so at least. It's the only site I visit that I have to wait a long time for any page to load, it oftern takes several attempts to post or reply to a post and this morning the Insert Link and Insert Image buttons in the editor didn't work. It's getting very frustrating.

I will now copy this message to the clipboard so that if it fails I can paste it and try again

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

Just tried to post replies in a couple of threads. Two failed attempts on each, but they went through quickly the third time. Something is certainly screwy with the CF server.

Actually, looking at the URL that is embedded in the link you gave, there's something a tiny bit sinister/odd going on.

The URL in the link is actually "http://www.cruisersforum.xn--coms-x96a/".

That's either an indication of a virus/trojan on your computer, or possibly your ISP has some seriously broken caching happening. Or, maybe, your antivirus package is doing some url rewrites to query it's own cache?

A quick google also makes me wonder if you are using some kind of media sharing device on your boat for access? That's got Android url rewrites written all over it.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

Again

First reply on another thread just resulted in an empty page being returned. Second attempt went through fast. WTF?

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

^^ I had the same last night - blank page appeared although I didn't try a second attempt. About 5 minutes later, the reply appeared on the thread.

Re: 'REPLIES" SERVER HAS THE FLU?

And even as we speak it is happening again. Server was fine at 1600 GMT, cloaked in the reply invisibility shield at 1605, and now at 1608...let's see...Nope, I could access the thread, but when I try to post a reply "this site can't be reached".

No problem, when the server finally goes down and down hard....we'll find a forum where they serve a better selection of rum.(G)

I keep trying to tell my parole officer that a five pound maul is the only appropriate tool for computer service, and she keeps trying to tell me that maybe I should look for other kinds of work. Which would be like ignoring the roaches, instead of stomping them, wouldn't it be?
