Gives a new meaning to "Three Years Before The Mast"

I'm going to start a poll on expectations of how long they are actually out there - I hope they make it but human nature being what it is leads me to realistically predict less than a year.

Heck, I can't even break my own record of not having some "adventure" aka problem (mast head light, CNG fittings, you complete the list) during long cruises... 1000 days at sea! Yikes! LIke someone said in another post... "The definition of cruising is working on your boat in exotic places". Nothing exotic about this trip... Although I do admire the sense of adventure!

We wish him well on his adventure, he has been preparing for this for almost as long as he plans to be gone.

SmallYachts is a sponsor of the 1000 days voyage, we manufacture Fer-A-Lite brand mortar mix and are proud of the fact that Reid is confident in the strength and quality of his 29 year old hull.

Bit of a Stretch

Um, Richard Henry Dana's book is titled Two Years Before the Mast.

"There are many times a day and night when Soanya and I awaken and greet each other with a smile."
"As I woke up this morning, Reid had already been up long enough to have breakfast and start his day."

So when they're both asleep, who's on watch? You would think after having a collision, they would consider maintaining a look-out. I still think they're doomed.

Its a damn bug! We're too close to shore. Tack! Quick! do something! Gybe-oh! The seas got bugs!!!

Here's a lovely quote: "There are five different species of birds flying around, .... We will work on identifying the different birds."

Seagulls!!!!!!

LOL.

I wish them well. (I also wish somone would change the banner photo on their website where he is 'pointing the way' to the younger lady on the helm. Its just a bit too.... naff.... as the English would say.)

Naff is a really useful word. I am trying to think of an "American" equivalent.

Naff is the right description of that photo for sure.

There will probably be about three people standing on the dock when he gets back on day 1001.....the IRS, the police with a warrant and the banks repo man. I wonder how much dope he has stashed away?..it must be one hell of a lot to last him 1000 days.

He probably thinks he will be going on Leno and Letterman when he gets back...nope, it will be more like America's Most Wanted.

I believe this was a reference to Ken Barnes on Privateer, IIRC.

66 days to go

He's hanging out just above the equator south of the Cape Verde Islands. Seems he will stay out until springtime in the North Atlantic rather than getting frozen and beat up coming into NY in the winter. Good Plan.... what's another 90+ days after what he's done?
