Was in Cebu in Feb this year to enjoy the tropical warmth and escape from the dank Chinese cold, nice place, hot girls I'd enjoy a return trip to the philippines sometime.
Have a good mate who has family in CEBU he would agree from the stories he has told me!!!

In reference to the questions on cost/value of the ARC I would say if you want a race and some publicity the ARC is a good choice. If you just want a rally then I believe more free rally groups will eventually replace the ARC like the Salty Dawg: The Salty Dawg Rally

Re: 3 ARC boats divert to Cape Verde with damage/injuries

Salty Dawg looks like a bunch of fun, however to run a Rally from one foreign country to another over an Ocean does cost large, from what we have seen over the last 3 years of our planning attracts us towards participating either 2013 or 14.

We are retired and need to watch the pennies, 'tis our plan for family members to come and crew and enjoy the once in a lifetime opportunity to do a crossing with their grandparents and parents.

The ARC fosters a sense of camaraderie, fun and safety for all involved.

Yep we can do it cheaper by just doing it but we choose to do it in a very memorable way no doubt making friends that will share those memories forever 2k = cheap......

Cheers

Dude you need to get your stuff together. I'm not saying spend $2k on the ARC but you need to have $2K collecting dust somewhere. Not doing so would make you irresponsible for cruising in the first place. Who's going to take care of you when you have an accident? Charity? Let me know when you figure out how to upgrade from your 42 foot Pearson to a newer yacht on a dusty $2k as well. That's a feat I'd like to see.
