Annapolis - rain or shine?

I've been anxiously awaiting the show for months now. I have tomorrow (Sat) free to head out there. Sadly, it seems as though the weather will continue to be quite dreary.

I've only been to one other boat show, the Annapolis spring event. So I'm curious.

Do these things run, rain or shine? Is it even worth going in the rain?

I really did want to see the interiors of some of the new, larger, catamarans ... the Lagoon 52 in particular and the Gunboat.

Also, I'll be bringing a somewhat elderly family member. They have gangplanks, right?

Yes, the show is still on. Rain might even be a good thing, both to keep the crowds down and to see how comfortable the boats really are in non-ideal weather. Generally access to the boats is very good, but after all they are boats--so no promises.

Rain did not deter many on VIP day. Some boats had gangplanks. Others required a minimal hop. Good sized line to see the gunboat yesterday. Imagine weekend crowds will be much higher regardless of forecast.

Re: Annapolis - rain or shine?

Went yesterday in (occasionally) torrential rain. Business as usual. They are boats after all, lol.

Check out the 80' Nautor Swan while you're there. Cockpit big enough for half-court one-on-one, and all the toys and lux you could want.

There's also a 90' cat in the charter area. Obscene amount of square footage.

I did not find many deals on gear while I was there, sadly. I might go back Sunday and scrounge around a bit.

It certainly gives a better chance to see if the "enclosure" is livable and sailable. Most I saw were one or the other.

And most of the vendors are in tents.

We're sailors and we're afraid of a little water?

I went yesterday...it was fun with light crowds. The Gunboat and Amel were pretty amazing.

If you go tomorrow (Saturday) morning, stop by the SSCA booth and say hi--I'll be there until 12:30. Also, if you're interested in a USNA tour (including a closeup look at a Navy 44) you can meet me at 1:00 Sunday outside Gate 1.

I went today, Friday. Even with the rain the crowds were as big as ever.

It was PACKED today. Lots of places with standing water. Wear boots.

I have to admit to being amused. If the OP has to inquire on the internet as to whether the weather will be suitable to go to a boat show, what will he ask if he actually has to sail somewhere?

The rain wasn't that bad; occasionally it let up. Definitely check out Chris White's MastFoil 47; he was there along with the builder (Alex Wopper.) Do not bother with the local Hillman garage, it packed by the time we got there (noonish.) The ride from the Navy stadium was relatively quick. I imagine it will be a real zoo over the weekend.
