Araw ng Barangay Sasa Events in the Philippines

Mindanao Times
Mindanao Daily Mirror

Barangaya Sasa will be hosting a native bancas race as part of the 12th
Araw ng Barangay Sasa Celebration on December 13. The layag race will run from Sta. Ana wharf to the old ferry dock in Sasa.

The wooden bancas are 3 to 3.75 m (10-12 feet), sailed solo and each skipper is allowed one wood paddle with which to steer.

If you're in the region, mark your calendars! sounds like the 2-day festival would be a lot of fun to attend!

Hmmm - a banca looks very much like a San Blas island ulu with outriggers:

And apparently two helpers...

Pay no attention to the man at the mast...
Pay no attention to the man in the bow...

not my fault!

I couldn't find any pictures of bancas in solo racing mode... but I also chose that pic for Imagine2Frolic because Yacht Willow is a US cruising yacht in the Philippines that does dive charters (and some mighty nice photography.)

Amgine,

Thanks for the post of Willow. I am trying to gather as much info as I can. I can't see myself sitting around, and doing nothing when it comes time to move to the Phils. That's why I am thinking of using the boat to keep me busy, and continue my exploring of beautiful waters!
