Re: Armed robbery in Mexico

On our TV news (Mexico City) two nights ago they stated that there have been 1800 gun related deaths in the USA in the last two months. That is thirty per day. So where is safe?

Just go, take care and be aware that things can and do happen or die of obesity as a couch potatoe.

Re: Armed robbery in Mexico

Pity we never hear about how many lives are saved by responsible gun owners using these tools to prevent crimes. But, that's the unbiased media for you....hooray for journalism! Mind you, if we think about the fact that cars are demonstrably more deadly than guns, we should ban cars. And alcohol. One further step...to prevent drowing, water is now illegal. Report to a shoreline near you for bailing duty....we'll fix it!

Re: Armed robbery in Mexico

My generation will not see our superannuation. It is being raided as we speak. I can expect a gruel queue and singing for pocket money. With my singing, I'll make a fortune. Extortion by any other name. Pay or I sing another stanza.

Celestial....I injected my microrant in response to Meddon's quoting of Mexican Television reporting US bangbang carnage (no mention of how many get fast & furiosly ventilated by Mexican parliamentarians....oops, I meant cartels). Afaik mentioning the "g" topic is still ok, as long as one doesn't mention "p" (no, not the galley sink rinse kind of "p"), or "r" (no, not the flexy thing you throw off the bow on a chain). I'm not a militarist, nor am I a boodthirsty triggerhappy paranoiac itching to blow someone away, but I am interested in seeing respectable people being left alone to protect themselves from the abundance of scoundrels in this world. Nobody else will. If you'll review my posts, you'll find littered amidst my absurdist humour and cynical sarcasm many attempts to come up with non "g" security solutions for cruisers, whereas the anti "g" folk just seem to promote the lay back and think of England approach and sling mud at any that refuse to join them. Now why is that?

The rudest person I ever met in Mexico was a Canadian.

you are correct, but i do not go down south where the problems are.

Murder rate per 100,000

Mexico 22.7

Thailand 5.3

USA 4.8

The chances of being murdered are 4 times higher in Mexico than Thailand.
If i told you i had a way to guarantee you had a 4 times greater chance of winning the lottery people would listen. it is what it is.

The Canadians that I've met here were nice, the ones that pissed me off were fellow Americans. You never know.

Re: Armed robbery in Mexico

I've never thought about this, but consider for a moment that some of the people who get killed should have been killed because they're pricks. What if it's just more social cleansing in some countries.

That may be a bit harsh for most of these cases. In this latest deal though, the guy acted like he was Hugh Hefner so maybe you are right. However big boobs are nice looking, (sorry ladies for the chauvinism!)

Re: Armed robbery in Mexico

Below is a full list of murder rates around the world. Even these figures state the Mexican figure includes the drug related murders (which account for half of the total murders here) so unless you are involved in that business Mexico is twice as safe as most of the popular Caribbean cruising destinations, which do not catch the knocking that some posters in this forum are very happy to throw at Mexico without really knowing the country or its people All I can say to them is stay north of the border we don't want you down here. Bigots and racists we can do without.

The first number after the country name is the murder rate per 100,000 population.

Lets all go to Palau. 0.0 murder rate with 0 killed. Of course Nauru is at 9.8% with 1 murder, so....

I didn't see Antarctica on the list, maybe I missed it.
Anyway, even if it has zero murders per year, I have NO interest in sailing there.
A return to Mexico is still high on my bucket list.
