it is the nature of choices. None are wrong, just some suck.

My ex girlfriend is Cuban. Cared for her a lot... but crazy as a dunny rat. Her life explains a lot of her illness and I think many escapees have similar issues.

I hope that influence can come to bear on the existing government structure to make life easier for the people. Sometimes if all you know is what you have then the choices are narrow.

We wait and watch.

That's called the 'Latin Temperament'.. took me a while to adjust to the raised voices and flailing arms..
Whereas once I'd be ready for a punch up I now just switch off and let em rant.. average voice range is around 250yds in normal conversation.. and that's just when they're on the phone to someone..

I wish. But life is what it is.. Castro had the greatest influence on his people that was not beneficial for many.

Re: Castro dead at 90

Sorry to hear that. I can see many local people I meet mentally scared by hardship. They often turn to religion.

Two of my best friends in venezuela are Cuban and they came to venezuela to escape Castro. Then Castro's boy Chavez turned venezuela into a franchise of Cuba.

Re: Castro dead at 90

Che has big following in the EU too: mostly among good for nothing young fringers who want to eat organic but avoid reading books. Most are shocked beyond belief when you tell them he was not Cuban. Many fail to shower daily too.

I know many of them as they want to join the ARC (for free, that's smart!) every year. A colourful crowd, jolly and that's that.

Interestingly, poor reading and concentration is not limited to Erasmus bastards. Where we live (Las Palmas, Canary Islands) with a sizeable population of Latino (re-)emigrants, if you ask who the guy shown on the monument in el Parque Romano is, you will hear ... well, he is the Romano! Well, not exactly. (It is a Simon Bolivar monument).

Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Ponte y Palacios Blanco

Now go ask any of the armchair bards of the great revolution what the full names of their semi-gods are. Most think Che is a name, too.

Education folks, education. Or, actually, lack of it.

Get it the old way: read, think, discuss.

;-)

This is Wiki's version of the nickname.. hence the Oi You in my reply to Barni's post.. the meaning varies country to country as S American Spanish is somewhat 'bastardised'..
Pure Che means That.. or similar.. sure they're not saying chi chi.. which in Portugal means a piss.. many claim its very similar to Spanish.. which I disagree with.. having had to learn both in my time.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈtʃe ɣeˈβaɾa] June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967), also known as El Che, meaning hey you, was an Argentine Marxist ...
