I think Keelhauling in shark infested waters should be considered as a form of punishment and the boat used be an aircraft carrier.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any more weird, there's this from today's 'Lectronic Latitude:

* * * * *

"Accused Murderer Back in the News

"July 25, 2008 – Santa Ana

Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against Skylar Deleon.
© 2008 Webb Logg

"There hasn't been much in the way of news in the drawn-out pursuit of justice for the killers of cruisers Tom and Jackie Hawks. Prosecuters believe that the Hawkses were murdered in November, 2004, by Skylar Deleon, John Kennedy and Alonso Machain during a test cruise of their trawler Well Deserved."

Perhaps the problem in “developed” countries is that people are sold the “Dream” and some without the work ethic to actually try to realise that dream, rationalise all kind of crazy schemes to shortcut a way to make it happen.

There becomes a blurring between entitlement and achievement.

This is the worst kind of example but in another thread I suggested that the first step was to focus on “funding”.

By that, I was politely advising the young poster to…get a job!

Perhaps it is only me, but the successes I have enjoyed have been made all the sweeter because of the honest effort made in achieving them.

With any luck they will also have a short but painful stint living with the Sodomites before the walk to the electric chair.

These kind of people make me sick to my stomach, I agree they should be keelhauled in shark infested waters but an aircraft carrier wont do it it should be a submarine and just be fore they drown or are crshed by pressure surface and throw these sorry lowlying,bottom feeding,yellowbelly,scumsucking, skunks in jail till they rot, thats just me (I've had a long day).

Thankful this at least ended in a conviction. Hope that provides some small measure of comfort to the families.

Very sad story.

Yeah, this story is pretty upsetting. This, combined with the couple Gord linked to selling their boat, combined with the Maine B&B operator who was murdered, combined with the 2 sets of guests that went nuts (one being removed by the police) on our boat is why we don't do charters anymore. - All in about a 2 season span!

Oh yeah, and the guy who tried to buy my last boat with the gold bars didn't help either (see thread entitled "grifters") somewhere deep in the past.

With all that, I determined that while chartering is a great way *financially* to pay off your boat, it's just not worth the risks to your home and your family.

We were going to day-charter this boat we have now, but decided she was too nice a boat to ruin.

From tomorrow's Los Angeles Times, comes word that while the wheels of justice grind slowly, some cases are so obvious that even a California jury gets it right:

* * *

"Skylar Deleon found guilty of killing Tom and Jackie Hawks

"Orange County jury takes only two hours to convict the Long Beach man of the 2004 murder aboard the Hawkses' yacht.

"By Christine Hanley

"October 21, 2008

"With his conviction a foregone conclusion, Skylar Deleon did not flinch Monday when he was found guilty of killing Tom and Jackie Hawks in a plot to steal their yacht and plunder their bank accounts."

* * *

this makes want to change my user name, I work way to hard to help people than to be associated to "pirate". It does sadden me that people have no regard to human life when it comes to illegal human smuggling. when I lived in the FL Keys, I saw many "wet foot, Dry Foot" scenes. Insane, is all I can say. One night, okay 4:30 am coming home from a bar in K.W. Four Coasties from Cuba were walking down the street with their AK-47's lowered and empty looking for political asylum because they were tired of chasing smugglers who steal boats in FL. for financial gain. many make it to the shores but many are shot in the pursuit (the innocent one's). It happens at all borders of this world, be careful out there, and don't trust every stranded vessel or charters consisting of a long distance to "fish".

Sorry, Dan, but that would kill the goose that lays the golden eggs! And besides, forwarding information from this side of the IDL to your side effectively negates any benefit of advance information, as it's already tomorrow on your side of the line.

Now, if your were to forward the business section of the Straits Times to an accomplice on this side of the IDL, then I believe a successful arbitage could be effected.
