Drug hauling submarine

I was wondering when this was going to happen. U.S. captures $187 million drug haul in submarine | U.S. | Reuters

The Germans back in WWII use to smuggle gold using subs.

This would have been an excellent live fire excercise for one of our Los Angeles class subs or a P3 Orion. What a missed opportunity.

Not a Sub, and no "sophisticated" gear.

I'm glad they were caught. But the hype over this story is ridiculous.

It was not a submarine. It was a vessel designed to have its flat deck just above the water and with intake and exhaust set so that the deck could be awash.

The "sophisticated navigation equipment" was pretty basic stuff compared to the average water sailing">blue water sailing yacht. Look at the compass held in place with duct tape. And the "sophisticated communication equipment" is an Icom M700 SSB.

Again, glad they were caught. But the story is not anywhere near what is claimed in the press releases.
