Here's a track from friends of ours on a Catalina 400. Looks like things got a bit ugly in the middle of the night...

Yep, the storm woke me up by nearly dumping me out of my bunk (and I was snug in a slip) . Felt like it got up in the 50 knot range. Thankfully wind was from the north, so it was pushing them off shore not into shore.

The race results are up, but I can't find any reports. There were many DNFs. Anyone got more info?

I heard quite a few dropped out / turned around. One friend on a 44 footer had to turn his engine on during the storm so he headed back to home port since that disqualified him, Another friend (33 footer) pulled into freeport for repairs. When the gulf gets ugly - fun time is over

Thanks Erika,

My dock neighbor was on Parrot Tale, and they finished 2nd. I'll call and get a report. I'll see you out there....we're at Watergate.

Hey Ralph,
I was living aboard at Watergate (pier 6), now at Waterford. Will welcome a report, my friend from Voyager has not called me yet, would like to hear how they did.

If I speak to James, I'll ask if he knows anything about Voyager.
If she's a Beneteau Oceanis 461, they are ok. They finished 3:46 behind the leader.

Emailed to me by a friend thought I'd pass it along

"I just wanted to let everybody know that John & Brenda, took second place in their division (R), in the Harvest Moon Regatta, on their 38 Shannon, Tranquil Passage! We all know that one year ago the Shannon, and the Cape Dory 31, were up in the parking lot of HYC, with destroyed masts and rigging and ............. They put out a tremendous effort to refit and rebuild their ship, and get her ready for the regatta. And, in spite of a terrific storm in the wee hours of Friday morning, a broken boom, and other minor set backs, they kept it together and finished in second place.
Congratulations to John & Brenda."

Also, My friends on a Alberg blew out two jibs during that storm. It must of been a doozy. Hmmm.. kind of glad I couldn't get off from work . But then again they have some cool sailor stories to tell.

I talked to my neighbor on Parrot Tales. They placed first in class, and second in the fleet....great job guys! They were lucky with the storm and were able to surf some waves with their chute. It must have been a ride.

He said there had been some injuries (minor?), at least one dismasting, and probably some dented pocket books. You know how those fronts blow in, maybe some were caught offguard?

Sounds like fun....maybe next year!
