King Arthur: I am, and this is my trusty servant Patsy. We have ridden the length and breadth of the land in search of knights who will join me in my court at Camelot. I must speak with your lord and master.
Guard: What? Ridden on a horse?
King Arthur: Yes!
Guard: You're using coconuts!
King Arthur: What?
Guard: You've got two empty halves of coconut and you're bangin' 'em together.
King Arthur: So? We have ridden since the snows of winter covered this land, through the kingdom of Mercia, through...
Guard: Where'd you get the coconuts?
King Arthur: We found them.
Guard: Found them? In Mercia?! The coconut's tropical!
King Arthur: What do you mean?
Guard: Well, this is a temperate zone.
King Arthur: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
Guard: Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?
King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.
Guard: What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
King Arthur: It could grip it by the husk!
Guard: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
King Arthur: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
Guard: Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
King Arthur: Please!
Guard: Am I right?
King Arthur: I'm not not interested!
[A second guard approaches the parapet]
Guard 2: It could be carried by an African swallow!
Guard 1: Oh yeah. An African swallow, maybe -- but not a European swallow, that's my point.
Guard 2: Oh yeah, I agree with that.
King Arthur: [exasperated] Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court at Camelot?!
Guard 1: But, of course, African swallows are non-migratory.
Guard 2: Oh, yeah.
[Arthur begins to depart]
Guard 1: ...So they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway.
Bubble bubble toil and trouble sounds better. Only two witches.

Re: HI->Tahiti Dingbats found after 5 months

I've never been seasick. My kid hasn't either and she'll go read in the V berth in any weather. But if I were in a boat beam-on to the swell 24/7 for months I'll bet I'd get really sick.

Speaking of which...beam on to swells. Mast and boom rocking back and forth. Tension on the "broken" spreader on/off/on/off/on/off. For weeks, maybe months. If that didn't take the mast down, I don't know what would.

Perhaps your reluctance to answer that or the experience questions may have something to do with it.

That is rather reminiscent of modern gutter media , if you don't have the facts then make some up which will appeal to the moronic masses , good on yer !! Fact is this thread is not about me , my experience ( whatever you may assume it to be ) is no excuse for the likes of yourself to create your own little fantasies as to what happened on a boat in the middle of an ocean thousands in some cases tens of thousands of miles away from you , but hey , rave on .

This is really funny, coming from someone who seems to be supporting the "facts" reported by the rescued ladies.

I'm all with you, Cherod. It appears as if an open forum like this encourages presumably well-mannered people to top the previous posters libel?

I'd say there is a significant difference between being nice and being fair.

As mentioned before, they're not here and cannot defend themselves or set the record straight.

It would be most interesting if they were to appear here and enter into dialog with us. However, so far each time they have made appearances and statements they have dug their hole deeper by making statements that have proven to be false or distorted.

It's quite chivalrous to defend these maidens, but their own statements and actions have removed credulity from their story. Commenting upon those public statements is hardly libelous... when the lawyers at the NYT allow them to publicly doubt the story it is pretty safe to say that such doubt is not actionable or even beyond the norm of polite society.
