Re: Hit and Run in St Maarten

Pretty sad to see "cruisers" that can't empathize with the OP's plight. I personally wish him well. I can't help with his search I will say that, while I know this is infuriating & frustrating, sometimes it takes less energy to just fix the boat yourself. Even if you find this guy it's pretty clear he has no intentions of paying for your damages.

Re: Hit and Run in St Maarten

Maybe the OP should detail the damages so the bleeding hearts (for the runner) can send him money to make repairs.

Re: Hit and Run in St Maarten

Googling "Bavaria 47 Marifa" shows a Gerard Sirot describing himself as a lawyer from Bern, Switzerland, advertising on a whole bunch of websites in about four languages for female crew.

Maybe he's too busy to think of much else and your predicament genuinely just slipped his mind - after all, lawyers and the Swiss are renowned for their scrupulous moral values aren't they?

His Skype & email are listed on some of those sites BTW.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

edit: Oops, sorry, my memory these days!! It's not scrupulous moral values at all - duh - it's Nazi gold, chocolate, clocks, secret bank accounts, bicycle army and silly little knives...
Sorry for the misinfo!

I'd say the Caribbean is pretty small, in cruiser terms. This guy will turn up. Great idea posting here.

Re: Hit and Run in St Maarten

He's not in Grand Case at the moment (2016-04-07) as I just anchored and checked out all the boats in here. You should announce on the VHF morning Cruiser's Net, if you have not done so already. It is at 07:30 on VHF 10 every day except for Sundays and I'd chime in at the beginning, after Shrimpy does the weather and when he announces "Safety and Security".

Sorry, I just don't think we have enough info to crucify the guy. What were the damages vs. claimed damages? Pics would be nice. It sounds like it could be a poor me type of thing. A scuffed rub rail or a stove in hull?

Maybe people should consider both sides, rather than a monolog.

Wow again, you just don't seem to get it. We are not trying to crucify anyone. We are trying to find the guy who hit the OP's boat and took-off. If the runner wants to dispute the claim he can do that. If he was AROUND, maybe we could hear his side of the story! Jeesh !!

He's not asking you to pass judgement and assess damages. He's just asking if anyone knows where the guy is. That's it.

Since you don't know where he is...

The guy destroyed his own reputation when he left after damaging an anchored boat.

Posting about it is merely telling the truth. Telling the truth used to be an admirable trait, not so long ago. As was being honorable and paying one's debts.

Brave new world, indeed!

Re: Hit and Run in St Maarten

Post 2. If it smells like fish it must be fish.I hate to post a thread like this, but my boat is the only thing I own, it's 21 feet long and took me 3 years of my spare time to build. I am very upset this man thinks he can damage my boat and then just leave without sorting the damage out.

Please help me find him, this is not how the sailing community should treat each other.

Sorry, everyone can think I am uncaring. Looks like a crock of **** from the gitgo?

Has anyone considered maybe a tad of extortion?
