Darryl, you are going to have to pick me up sometime. I want to get sailing more, but there is always something that stuffs it up. Of course, we are getting into our 'windless" season now and I need a min of 10kts to make me move anywhere, so it gets boring. Or maybe I am too impatient. I feel like I have been more a launch than a sailboat this year. We have gone through $600 in fuel this seanon so far. Wayyyy too much. That's like some 60hrs of motoring.

In Auckland we pay $ 480 a month for our 12M berth - thats $ 5760 per year but that's the livaboard rate. The non live aboard rate is less 20%. For a boat of your size alan you would be paying around $6000 or possibly more in Auckland so I don't think the pricing is too bad? Our 44 foot yacht in Australia is costing a LOT more than $6k to keep in the marina.

The havelock facilities are not flash but at the end of the day it's supply and demand I guess as far as pricing goes!

We are not live aboard. Live aboard is another $1K. So it would be closer to $7K for any newbie coming in now and wanting to live aboard on a 45ft(14m) vessel.
To add, I have a 12m birth and I am paying for a 14m boat. So I have several metres of my aft end sticking out. There are 16m births, but I have to pay for the 16m, not the 14m length I am. Go figure.

Anytime Alan. I had to motor a bit yesterday as there was no wind quite a lot of the way. The rip at Karori rock was pretty neat to go through. At one stage the wind died and I was doing 0 knots through the water but over 5knots over land. Was a bit like a washing machine.
Off to Seaview now to spend the weekend sailing around the harbour.
Like being in a whole new country
