Just to put thing in perspective, on the news a bit ago (in the USA) was a story about a mechanic who improperly serviced a swimming pool heater in a hotel resulting in four hotel guests dying from carbon monoxide poisoning. His penalty - loss of his business license for one year.

Yes he will be sued but he won't go to jail even for a day.
