re: Mexico confiscated 380 yachts - MERGED THREADS

Zeehag

Why are you so negative about cruisers?

I've made two trips to Mexico and spent a total of four years cruising on my boat and two other boats. I met a lot, really a lot, of other cruisers and not a one of them acted as you describe.

I cruised from Puerto Refugio (way north of BLA) to Zihuatenejo and back for several years and never met anyone like you describe.

I was a computer repair guy, an e-mail expert, and pretty good with electronics and electrical stuff so I answered hundreds of calls for assistance on the local VHF and visited hundreds of boats.

Was I just lucky in the friends I pick and the boats I visited?

So, you are not in Mexico where this is being reported to be going on ?

re: Mexico confiscated 380 yachts - MERGED THREADS

i know of only one cruiser or alleged cruiser who is a negative soul. i know there are many derelict boats left by former one leg cruisers. those are not cruisers, ye think? and i have watched many of the migratory birds as they parade north and south as vacation cruisers.
some of those decided to leave boats in barra this year.
some of those decided to leave their boats in an area wherein folks are bragging online about other folks bragging about false and falsif¡ed `papers.
i choose my associates not by appearance but by carefully weeding put those who have a tendency to inappropriately squawk about the availability of falsified and abilities to falsify papers.
i am careful about the company i keep.
i learned early on that most folks on the water are not what they seem nor are they to be trusted.
i lost many items of clothing and equipment and charts to alleged cruisers. not the same one. not the same year.
i neither sail with others i do not know nor do i anchor near them by choice.
there is no reason to place abject trust in someone merely because they do what you do for entertainment or travel or whatever purpose.
i only trust those who have proven to be worthy of that trust. it must be earned.
same as respect.

i am in a different area of mexico.
the purge seems to have been concentrated around the golfo de california to banderas bay portions of mexico.
i am farther south. i am in tropical mexico where folks with insurance do not go in summertime. where it is so very gorgeous and green.
i did not post any words against the mexican govt at any time during my tenure here in mexico.
i do not hang with anyone who does so, either. that is the best way to invite troubles.
yes they know where you are without having to know your name. they just simply do a purge.

Ah, so those who report that their boats have been impounded are being punished because they "post[ed] any words against the mexican govt" so it is their own fault.

I didn't know that.

that is also NOT what i said. if you wish to paraphrase me, at least get the context correct.
there was a cf individual, if you do not remember, who DID brag on knowing that folks are faking papers and then within a few months is a purge. would you not believe the words of the person who bespoke that had something to do with it??? or are you going to continue with head in sand.......

If that was not what you intended to imply you should probably go back and rephrase your post.

re: Mexico confiscated 380 yachts - MERGED THREADS

Just came from the marina. This time a different person (with a manager looking on) looked at our paperwork and said, your TIP is here, you can go, no problem.
Every time we went it, there was a different answer to our questions.
So, far, so good. We splash this week, and will be waiting for a weather window!

This reminds me of the thread several years ago where you claimed to know a boat that had a non-pressurized alcohol stove explode five times and burn up the galley each time.

I'll see if I can dig it up. Comic relief is always good

Here's an update from Lectronic Latitude that one could say properly describes the situation.

re: Mexico confiscated 380 yachts - MERGED THREADS

The December 20 post on Latitude 38 suggests Mexico is making a mess of things.
I am certainly not going to be staying in any marinas down there if the kind of
BS they describe continues. Potential big loss for marinas and boat tourism in general.
Maybe they don't care about visiting boaters anymore, just the folks that step off the planes much like some other countries.

Don't let the panic worry you Amigo....
Mexico will get their heads out of their ass and will welcome cruisers with open arms again soon.
