Mini-transit start delayed for weather

The opening of the 16th Open 650, better known as the mini-transat, has been delayed due to weather.

"The departure is, so, postponed probably to Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning," says Denis Hugues on the official race website.

There is a crowded field of 89 skippers for this year's race. The race, which is run every other year, runs from Charente-Maritime, France, to Bahia, Brazil this running, with a stop at Funchal, Madeira.

A preview regatta is scheduled between Fort Boyard and La Rochelle for 11am Sunday.

Those are neat little boats. There is a local guy who is building one and I even considered it. (I think he bought one to sail during the building process.) After looking at the boat these guys are clearly nuts. Sounds like fun to me...

I hate to say it, but the more I look at the boats the more I'm thinking it looks like an awful lot of fun...

The preview regatta got underway, but was called due to dead calms. Practice for the doldrums?
