Mystery Yacht sinks off coast of Nova Scotia

This is not an area where local Nova Scotians sail, especially this time of year. (We lived in Nova Scotia for over ten years and our house is there.)
Population this time of year is about 5 so this yacht was probably in transit. Will try to follow up as more info is released.

And the inevitable conflicting report although the size of the boat seems pretty specific.

Might be 1 of the 5 or 6 abandoned around Bermuda this time last year.
1 of them was sighted south of here this summer.

Re: Mystery Yacht sinks off coast of Nova Scotia

I wonder if it sailed itself up from New Jersey, New York, or maybe Massachusetts after Hurricane Sandy? Seems unlikely, but in this season it is not unusual to read of boats mysteriously disappearing from a mooring. The painters have been on there all summer long, sometimes without chafing gear, and then the nor'easters and hurricanes arrive.

Cape Sable I. is not nearly as remote as Sable I. For example, it's relatively close to Shelburne, a major (at least for Nova Scotia) yachting center.

Thanks Ziggy, you are correct. Guess my 10 years in the Annapolis Valley are showing! (That's on the Bay of Fundy side...well away from Shelburne.)

I don't understand this part, who reported it missing?
:
"Police did not receive a distress call from the boat, which was reported missing Friday night..."
