The propellers don't aerate except perhaps in extreme storm conditions, where aeration would be extremely rare. There can be cavitation, which is very different. Propeller wash, yes, but that won't sink a boat.

Thank you David. I don't plan on getting close enough to fall prey to cavitation but I do occasionally cross a freighters wake and will belay my plan to hold my breath.

Next time you see a tanker steaming without load, go over and drive through its wake. Keep within 100 yards. That will learn you.
