goboatingnow - could you provide a reference to the UK enforcing APIS for yachts? I couldn't find anything either in RYA or MCA to this effect?

E-Borders to be 'voluntary' | Sailing news | Yachting Monthly

Big news is that based on EU laws compulsory eborders may not now come into effect, the comment from UK Borders Agency is that they will "investigate" those not voluntary filing more closely. taqlk about big bullies!

goboatingnow - thatnsk for the link, it is interesting indeed and I found UK Border Agency | Fishing boats and leisure craft this page which states that they will start talking about it in 2010. I have UK registry so there's no way for me to weasel out of this if it gets implemented, either.

This topic needs to be put in a new thread--the Caribbean countries have responded to pressure and not implemented the APAIS for yachts. Now its time for the EU yachting industry to get to work.

I didn't know the EU was the same as the Caribbean.

Very similar these days. It's just colder here in the EU.

cheers,

When you have people flying jets into skyscrapers you tend to get that way.

No, its the reaction that overly authoritarian goverments have to it that determines what happens. Better to let innocents die then confine your citizens by removing their freedomns. The fact is that these "measures" dont actually protect anybody, is irrevelant, they are just "smokescreens" to pander to public opinion and the fearmongers. The terrorists are winning, as we are constantly "self regulating" our freedoms as a result.

Zanshin, nothing to do with UK registry. It will apply to all yachts entering or leaving the UK.

Firstly teh EU does not have any requirement for APIS on yachts, only the UK. Secondly the EU is actually currently stating that the UK-eborders systems is illegal under EU treaties. So the whole scheme is currently up in the air and likely to be declared ultra-vires as EU law is superior to UK law.

True to an extent and really hard on The Innocents in question! Might be time to, horror of horrors, not allow certain nationalities access to the US to begin with. Or at the very least not unfettered access. We need to make it unhealthy for those Countries who sponser terrorism, to continue to do so.

I started this one, and now I'm closing it. The topic is dead, so extending the discussion to political grounds is not appropriate.
