Re: S/V Far Star Overdue

deckofficer, i do believe you know way lot more than me when it comes to radio. i am just an end user. plug it in and turn it on. that's about it. i did string an oak tree with lots of copper wire and wrapped a toilet paper cardboard tube with more copper. took a steel ball and some other odds and ends and wound up with a radio. it worked. not well, but back in 1952 it was magic. now about that lightening storm....then i got a zenith worldwide. no more melted copper and fried window sills.

btw an acquaintance has a seatel system that she claims can be used anywhere she sails. internet, tv, radio comm, etc. far cry from an old insulated backstay and a ssb radio(marine, thank you). but that rig worked for me most of the time(60%). my how things keep changing.

DO, you might like to re-consider which sideband is used for marine HF radio.

as seafarers i and i'm sure a lot of other cf members value your posts on the forum, keep em coming.

and i'm sure the other member has lots to offer as well, but going out and buying a seatell unit or immarsat is not in the majority of most cruisers budget!

No worries mate, I often, err, sometimes suffer from the same affliction.

Re: S/V Far Star Overdue

funny about age, i'm trying to downsize boats to prepare for old age but "old age" seems to be a moving target. maybe in another 20 years....

"old age" seems to be a moving target.

There is a lot of truth in that
