Singlehanded Transpac

Is anyone following this? Isn't it amazing that with all the Westsail bashing that they are a slow boat (wetsnail) that Dave Kall (Saraband) is currently in 4th place uncorrected behind 3 boats that have a 100+ rating above him. Also a 81 year old Ken Roper(the General) is 5th on a 31' Finn Flyer. Check it out at http://sfbaysss.org/TransPac/transpac2010/race_tracker/position.html

Good on Dave, he is old hat at the Transpac, having won the race before in his Westsail. Not bad for a middle aged guy on a 35 year old cruising boat.

Bandicoot should be given some credit too. He's caught up despite a restart

Its all about course management for the conditions. Whether to sail one of three routes based on were the Pacific High is or will be. The rhumb line, or above or below that line.
Members of Singlehanded Sailing Society are an interesting group. I'd reccomend a visit to their website.
Also check out Roy Disney's film, Morning Light and his sponsership of a Transpac. Great sailing pics.
