W.I.B. Crealock Dies at 89

From the LA times

In 2002, one of Crealock's designs, the Pacific Seacraft 36, was inducted into the American Sailboat Hall of Fame. The citation called the craft "a classic American sailboat with an honesty of design that, combined with the highest standards of boatbuilding . . . has shown the sailing industry that there is a place in the hearts and budgets of sailors for a boat created expressly to go to sea and bring the crew back safely."

Sad news

we are slowly losing the leaders of an era of yachts that will never be seen again. Some of the best cruising boats came from gentlemen such as Crealock and Stephens. Todays boats are designed more and more by stylists with more concern for showroom appeal and living space than sailing ability.

We should all take note and a moment to think back to a time when form followed function and beauty was a result of simplicity and grace.

Crealock 37...one of my all time favorites.
