Boat Ran Aground

Made a fooling call trying to beat the retreating tide in Alvor estuary in Portugal.

I was worried that water would come in over the cockpit coaming when the tide came in, as it turns out fully laden she behaved like a saint and mocked me for even worrying.

No damage to the paint work, took on some water through some fittings or water tank vents as the boat tipped over.

Would suggest doing it on your boat in protected waters just for peace of mind when it's serious .... not a nice way to spend 12 hours in the cold however!

Full run down can be found at Yarrrgh … we be grounded!!

ROLF.... I would not feel to embarassed about it... Alvors famous for groundings with its poorly marked channel and constantly shifting bars by the 1st dogleg in...
at least its a well sheltered place to practice... as you say.
A definite 'make sure the sounders accurate' entrance..
Enjoy the rest of the trip...
