Earthquake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wow

I was down in the hole today.....Stoney Creek off the Patapsco......My Helper was topside and yelled......I came on deck and there were waves radiating out from the pilings and the lights on aluminum poles were oscillating a good 2 feet for about a minute......

The Baltimorons (who fear snow and have to be reminded ad nauseam how to drive in it, or in the rain have to be told not to drive thru deep water) are in a real panic about this one......A lot of the businesses closed early.......

Next..............

Hurricane Irene..........Stay tuned.......

Re: Earthquake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wow

I was in my home office on the second floor and the house was shaken (not stirred) quite a bit for the quake (5.8). Irene was a bit less shake but she knocked on the door a whole lot longer and harder. No boats were injured in either altercation.

For US earthquakes the largest to ever hit the continental US was NOT in California but the New Madrid on the Mississippi River in 1811 (may have been an 8.1). It made the river flow backwards for a time and was felt in an area 10 times larger than the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 that holds the record for most fatalities by more than 25 times of any other US quake. The 1964 quake in Alaska was the biggest overall 9.2 on the scale with 143 deaths.

Relatives of neighbors had all their windows blown out in Mineral, Virginia where the quake epicenter hit.

Re: Earthquake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wow

I just met a guy from Mineral VA the other day and he said they are chnging the name to Epicenter. I told it would be good to know where all the trouble started.

Re: Earthquake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wow

USGS sez the New Madrid fault line is well over due for a major quake. Similar to the San Andreas fault, we are all just sitting here waiting for an inevitability.

Things to worry about.

Last September in Ethiopia the earth opened up and swallowed camels!

! In only a million years we're going to have a new continent!

The Mayan calendar does not end, except in the Hollywood movie, "2012".
