I made some shrimp fried rice today

Yes, I actually made some shrimp fried rice.

Used day old rice, and an actual carbon steel wok.

Chopped garlic, chopped ginger, chopped green onions and bean sprouts.

Fresh shrimp, diced ham and a diced shallot. A couple of scrambled eggs. Peanut oil, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce and oyster sauce.

I would call it a chinese dish, but my post, and this thread, would probably get deleted.

Good grief.........

Yes, we need the glamour shot of the food.

According to the Uncle Roger on YouTube video Jedi posted on another thread, you did all right except you forgot the MSG...having known people with a MSG allergy I would have not added it either.

Re: I made some shrimp fried rice today

A great way to use left over rice which tends to firm up and is perfect for frying.
add any meat or fish and soy sauce to taste. I like to add MSG but it gives my wife a head ache, so none for me either.

Davy, sounds great.... if you are on Facebook you might like Cooking on a Boat. I love to cook onboard and often post “Boat Food Tonight” shots.

Re: I made some shrimp fried rice today

After reading this, I decided to make something very similar last night - only differences: no bean sprouts, brown onion in lieu of shallot, chorizo insteasd of ham and kecap manis in lieu of oyster sauce.

(Rice was not day old, but we cooked it around midday and spread it out on a large plate under a tea towel to cool/dry for a few hours.)

Cooked in a carbon steel wok on the induction plate.

According to my X-Wife (of Chinese heritage) Fried Rice is originally a "peasant dish" conceived as a way to use up what ever left overs were handy and turn them into a tasty meal. So yes GO For It!
